Blue Hawks earn three USTFCCCA Midwest Region Honors

DICKINSON, N.D. — Three members of the Dickinson State University track and field program earned regional honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the 2026 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field season, the organization announced.

U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association recognized the top athletes and coaches from each of the NAIA's five regions, with award winners selected by a vote of member coaches.

Leading the way for the Blue Hawks was Dylan Dahlgren, who was named the Midwest Region Men's Field Athlete of the Year. Dahlgren was the only athlete in the Midwest Region to qualify for the NAIA Outdoor Championships in three field events. He enters the national meet ranked sixth nationally in the hammer throw, 10th in the shot put and 13th in the discus throw.

Dahlgren also captured the hammer throw title at the Frontier Conference Outdoor Championships with a conference-record mark while finishing runner-up in the discus and fourth in the shot put.

On the women's side, Chloe Gunderson earned Midwest Region Women's Field Athlete of the Year honors after a dominant regular season in the throwing events. Gunderson concluded the regular season ranked No. 1 nationally in the discus throw and No. 2 nationally in the shot put.

Her personal-best mark of 15.71 meters (51 feet, 6 1/2 inches) in the shot put ranks sixth in NAIA history. Gunderson totaled 25 points at the Frontier Conference Outdoor Championships, winning both the discus and shot put while adding a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw.

Tanner Gust was selected as the Midwest Region Women's Assistant Coach of the Year after guiding the Blue Hawks' throwers to three conference titles. Under Gust's direction, Dickinson State finished the regular season ranked No. 1 nationally in both the shot put and discus throw event squad rankings and No. 3 in the hammer throw.

The Blue Hawks will compete this week at the 2026 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Asheville.
