Blue Hawks Drop Three to #5 Bellevue University in NSAA Opening Games

OMAHA, NE- Due to poor weather on Saturday, the Dickinson State University Baseball team played three- seven inning games against #5 Bellevue University on Friday. The Bruins won 6-0, 4-0 and 3-2.

Game 1: BU 6, DSU 0

Bellevue University plated one run in the third, two in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth to defeat the Blue Hawks 6-0. The Blue Hawks only had four hits to the Bruins 14.

Jacob Cuch recorded two hits while Dylan Skabo and Ryan Mitchell each had a hit in the loss.

Gabriel Lizarraga took the loss going six innings allowing six runs on 14 hits with no walks and no strikeouts. The Blue Hawks committed on error in the game.

Game 2: BU 4, DSU 0

Bellevue University plated one run in the first inning, one in the third and two in the fourth to win game two by a score of 4-0. The Blue Hawks committed two errors in the game. DSU only recorded three hits in the game while the Bruins had six hits.

Jacob Hignite recorded two hits in the game while Jeff VanCleave had one hit in the loss.

Jason Thibault took the loss going 3 2/3 innings allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits with four walks and four strikeouts. Joey Buchanan came in to throw 2 1/3 innings allowing no runs on one hit with no walks and no strikeouts.

Game 3: BU 3, DSU 2

Dickinson State held a 2-0 lead going into the top of the sixth inning but after two singles and a Blue Hawk error, the Bruins tied up the game. Bellevue then took the lead on a suicide squeeze and shut down the Blue Hawks in the top of the seventh to earn the three game sweep.

The Blue Hawks scored one run in the second and one run in the fifth.

Jeff VanCleave and Jacob Cuch each had RBI singles while Ryan Mitchell had a double. Chad Mackay and Jacob Hignite each recorded singles in the loss.

Josh Schuller took the loss throwing six innings allowing three runs (one earned) on eight hits with one walk and five strikeouts.

THe Blue Hawks are now 13-18 (0-3 NSAA) and will host Mayville State University next weekend. Game one on Saturday is scheduled for 1:00 PM (MDT). Sunday's games will begin at 12:00 PM (MDT).
