DICKINSON, ND- The Dickinson State University Baseball team split a four game series with the University of Jamestown on Saturday and Sunday. The Jimmies on the first and third games while the Blue Hawks won games two and four.
Game 1: UJ 9, DSU 2
Jamestown took an early lead after scoring a run in the top of the second and third innings before DSU scored a run in the bottom of the third. UJ then plated four runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the sixth. Dickinson State would add a run in the bottom of the seventh but UJ won 9-2.
Taichi Sasaki led the Jimmies with four hits including a double while Kaleb Binstock finished with three hits including two doubles. Mark Kane had two hits including a homerun while Nico Kelly, Landon Uetz and Scooter Turin each had a hit in the win.
Gabe Lizarraga took the loss going 5.2 innings allowing nine runs (7 earned) on 10 hits with four walks. Taylor Dantini tossed 1.1 innings allowing no runs on two hits with three walks and a strikeout. Nate Demarais threw two innings allowing no runs on no hits with a strikeout.
Jerome Byndloss earned the win going seven innings allowing two runs (1 earned) on seven hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Marshall Burgess threw the final two innings allowing no runs on one hit with a strikeout.
The Jimmies finished with nine runs on 12 hits with an error while the Blue Hawks finished with two runs on eight hits with two errors.
Game 2: DSU 4, UJ 3
The Blue Hawks plated a run in the bottom of the first, another in the bottom of the fifth and two in the bottom of the sixth to take a 4-0 lead into the last inning. After three consecutive walks to start the inning, the Jimmies plated three runs but the Blue Hawks held on to a 4-3 win.
Mark Kane led the Jimmies with two hits including a double while Peter Pennylegion added a double and Taichi Sasaki had a hit in the loss.
Ryan Absher picked up the win going 6.1 innings allowing three runs on three hits with seven walks and two strikeouts. Sean Getchell earned the save going .2 innings allowing no runs on one hit with a walk.
Brad Bennett took the loss going six innings allowing four runs (3 earned) on five hits with a walk and a strikeout.
Dickinson State finished the game with four runs on five hits with no errors while the Jimmies finished with three runs on four hits with an error.
Game 3: UJ 13, DSU 7
The Jimmies plated a run in the top of the third but DSU answered with three runs in the bottom off a three run homerun by Sagan Osborne. UJ would then put up 10 runs in the top of the fourth. DSU would add two in the bottom of the seventh while UJ answered with two in the top of the eighth. The Blue Hawks would scratch a run in the bottom of the eighth and ninth but the Jimmies held on for a 13-7 win.
UJ was led by Kaleb Binstock with three hits including a double while Taichi Sasaki also had three hits. Scooter Turin had a homerun while Mark Kane, Christian Shouman and Landon Uetz all had a double. Nico Kelly, Quinn Irey and Peter Pennylegion each recorded a hit in the win for UJ.
Jalen Lane took the loss going 3.2 innings allowing nine runs (7 earned) on 10 hits with no walks and two strikeouts. Brock Messer allowed two runs (0 earned) on one hit and faced three batters. Karson Hanosky threw 5.1 innings allowing two runs on two hits with a walk and three strikeouts.
Logan Lund picked up the win for UJ going seven innings allowing five runs on seven hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.
The Jimmies finished the game with 13 runs on 13 hits with no errors while DSU finished with seven runs on nine hits with three errors.
Game 4: DSU 1, UJ 0
Dickinson State scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the fifth off a Jacob Cuch RBI single.
Quinn Irey led the Jimmies with a double while Taichi Sasaki, Alex Sablan and Peter Pennylegion all had a hit in the loss.
Sean Getchell picked up the win going seven innings allowing no runs on four hits with four walks and two strikeouts to earn the complete game shutout.
Chase Thometz suffered the loss going six innings allowing one run on four hits with four walks and eight strikeouts.
The Blue Hawks finished the game with one run on four hits and no errors while UJ finished with no runs on four hits with no errors.
Dickinson State is now 16-14 overall and 6-2 in NSAA play. The Blue Hawks will host NSAA rival Valley City State on Saturday (1:00 PM MDT) and Sunday (12:00 PM MDT) in a four game series.
