Blue Hawks fall to Comets

MAYVILLE, ND- The Dickinson State University Baseball team dropped all four games to the Mayville State University Comets this last weekend.

GM 1: MSU 16 DSU 3 (7 innings)

The Blue Hawks dropped game 1 of the weekend series against NSAA foe Mayville State 16-3. The Comets would score all of their runs before the 6th inning with the Blue Hawks adding runs in the 1st and 6th innings.

The Blue Hawks offense was led by Sagan Osborne who went 2-3 with an RBI. Jacob Cuch and Dylan Skabo both went 2-4 on the day. Micquel Robinson added one hit and Ryan Absher had a double and 2 RBI.

Joey Buchanan took the loss for DSU going 2 innings and allowing 8 runs on 7 hits. He walked 2 and struck out 1. Gabe Lizzaraga pitched 1 inning and allowed 3 runs on 2 hits, while Brock Messer also went 1.1 innings and allowed 3 runs on no hits, but 3 walks. Konner Goettsche finished the final 1.2 innings for the Blue Hawk allowing 2 runs on 2 hits.

DSU scored 3 runs on 8 hits and committed 2 error. MSU scored 16 runs on 11 hits and committed 1 error.

GM 2: VSCU 8 DSU 3

The Blue Hawks managed its first lead of the series going up 4-2 in the top of the 6th inning in this seven inning contest, but the Comets would answer with 6 runs in the bottom of the frame to get to the final tally.

Alex Ross went 2-2 with an RBI and Ryan Absher was 2-3 with an RBI to lead the Blue Hawks. Danny Brescaia and Micquel Robinson added the other 2 DSU hits.

The Comets used a balanced offense attack to bury the Blue Hawks, getting hits from every starter and being led by JQ Folena's 2-3 day. Spencer Merle also added a homerun for MSU.

Jalen Lane picked up the rare complete game loss going 6 innings and allowing 8 runs on 12 hits. He surrendered 2 walks and struck out 4.

Kaiton Agnes got the win in relief for the Comets going 2 innings and allowing 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 3. MSU starter Conner DiNaro got the no decision after pitching 5 innings and allowing 2 runs on 3 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 5.

DSU scored 3 runs on 6 hits and committed 2 errors. MSU scored 8 runs on 12 hits and committed 0 errors.

GM 3: MSU 8 DSU 3

Mayville State jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead before the Blue Hawks would answer with a 3 run 4th inning. However, once again, a 4 4 run 6th inning for the Comets would prove too much to overcome.

Micquel Robinson and Sagan Osborne both went 2-4, with Robinson adding an RBI, to lead the DSU offense. Jacob Cuch, Chad Mackay, Danny Brescia, and Trevor Oldham would all also add hits in the loss.

Sean Getchell would get the loss for the Blue Hawks going 5.2 innings and allowing 8 runs on 11 hits. He walked 3 and struck out 2. Nathan Demarais came in to finsh the final 2.1 innings for the Blue Hawks allowing 0 runs on only 1 hit.

DSU scored 3 runs on 8 hits and committed 0 errors. MSU scored 8 runs on 12 hits and committed 2 errors.

GM 4: MSU 17 DSU 2

Again DSU would jump out to a lead, 2-0 in the 2nd inning, but the Comets would answer back with 17 runs before the 4 inning came to a close to down the Blue Hawks.

The Blue Hawks offense was led by Alex Ross who went 1-2 with an RBI. Sagan Osborne and Danny Brescia added the other two Blue Hawk hits.

Ryan Absher took the loss going 2.2 innings and allowing 9 runs on 6 hits, he walked 4 and struck out 1. Jon Koessl allowed 8 runs on 6 hits in 0.2 innings. Taylor Dantini finished the game for DSU going 2.2 innings and allowing 0 runs on 1 hit and struck out 4.

DSU scored 2 runs on 3 hits and committed 3 errors. MSU scored 17 runs on 13 hits and committed 4 errors.

DSU in now 17-21  (7-9 NSAA) on the season. 

Dickinson State will not travel to the University of Winnipeg on Saturday and Sunday in a four game NSAA series.
