He advanced to the State AA Wrestling Tournament this past winter and was also on the Billings Scarlets (Legion Baseball) State Championship team last summer.
Leinwand was coached by Blue Hawk great, Rob Stanton who said, “I am excited for the opportunity that Dickinson State has given Jayson. He is a three-year starter in our program and our best defensive player last year. He is ferocious on the field and a good athlete. He has been an important part of our program since he was a freshman. We will miss him here, but I am excited for his tremendous upside he can bring to DSU.”
Leinwand registered 138 tackles, 11 QB hurries, 3 INT’s – returned one for a touchdown and also had 5 sacks for the Golden Bears this past fall. The Blue Hawks finished 8-3 this past season and won the North Star Conference Championship. They advanced to the NAIA National Playoffs and return 15 starters off of last year’s team.
Jayson is the son of Kirk and Carol Leinwand.
“Jayson is one of the top players in the state of Montana. On defense he is athletic and physical. He has great instincts and plays with a purpose. On the offensive side not only is he a good blocker from the tight end position, but also is very good at getting into the routes and making plays. He is a very good athlete, having excelled in four different sports in high school. He will be a great addition to our defense.”, said Blue Hawks Head Coach Pete Stanton.
