Nick Walker Named DSU Assistant Football Coach and Intramural Coordinator

DICKINSON, ND- Dickinson State University Athletic Director, Tim Daniel, has released the hiring of former Blue Hawk, Nick Walker, to join the Dickinson State Football coaching staff.

"I am so excited to be able to come back and work with the football program that gave so much to me," said Walker.  "Working with Coach Stanton and the staff will be a great experience and I am very thankful for the opportunity."

Nick graduated from Dickinson State University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education.

After graduating from DSU, Nick became the physical education teacher at Harlowton High School where he taught 4-12 PE and was the head football and basketball coach from August 2004 to May 2006.

Walker then became the PE teacher and Bowman County High School until 2008. At BCHS, Nick taught adaptive PE and implemented the first weight program for the school. Walker was also the head boys and girl's track coach and led the girls to a state championship. Nick was also an assistant basketball coach and the defensive coordinator for the football team.

Since 2008, Nick has been employed at the Bismarck Public Schools as the PE teacher for grades 9-12. At Bismarck Century High School, Walker was the head track coach for eight years and has won five state titles and being named "Coach of the Year" five times. Nick was also the assistant girls basketball coach and helped the team to two state championships. Walker has also spent the last seven years as an assistant football coach as the quarterback and receivers coach and also the offensive coordinator. 

“We are very pleased to welcome Nick Walker back to Dickinson State," said DSU Head Football Coach Pete Stanton.  "He was a winner and leader when he was here as an athlete. Since that time he has gone on to have a storied career as an educator and coach at the high school level. He is smart, passionate, and a great motivator and educator. Our players will be fortunate to have someone so talented help lead them. He will be a great addition to our staff and we welcome Nick back To the Blue Hawk family."

Nick will also be the new Intramural Coordinator for Dickinson State University.

"I look forward to working with the students at Dickinson State to make the intramural programs a positive experience in continuing to build a great campus community," stated Walker.

Nick will begin his duties at Dickinson State University on August 1, 2016.
