Tommy Sease & Cody Johnson Named Dacotah Bank/NSAA Football Players-of-the-Week

MADISON, S.D. – The second edition of the Dacotah Bank/North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Football Players-of-the-Week was announced by the conference office Monday evening.  Jacob Giles of Dakota State (S.D.) was selected as Offensive Player-of-the-Week for the second straight week.  Thomas Sease of Dickinson State (N.D.) was named to Defensive Player-of-the-Week, while his teammate Cody Johnson was chosen as Special Teams Player-of-the-Week.

NSAA Football Offensive Player of the Week
Jacob Giles – Dakota State (S.D.) – 6'2" – 210 lbs., Junior – quarterback – Madison, S.D. – Despite 45-42 high scoring affair road loss at Dordt (Iowa), Giles tied the Dakota State's (S.D.) school record for most touchdown passes in a single game.  He threw over 300-yards for the second straight game where he completed 24-of-41 for 317 passing yards with five touchdown passes and no interception.  He added eight rushes for 29 yards with a touchdown, recording a total of six touchdowns recorded in the game for Giles.

NSAA Football Defensive Player of the Week
Thomas Sease – Dickinson State (N.D.) – 6'3" – 205 lbs., Junior – linebacker – Bismarck, N.D. – Sease led No. 21-ranked Dickinson State (N.D.) in tackles in 38-13 non-conference home victory over Valley City State (N.D.).  He tallied 10 tackles (4 solo) and recorded two tackles-for-loss of 12 yards, including one-and-one-half quarterback sacks.  Sease had an interception in the game and returned it for 25 yards to stat the Blue Hawk's offense from the VCSU's five-yard line, leading to a Dickinson State's touchdown.    

NSAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Cody Johnson – Dickinson State (N.D.) – 5'10" – 200 lbs., Freshman – kicker – Sidney, Mont. – Johnson was 5-of-5 on PAT extra-point kicks in No. 21 Dickinson State's (N.D.) 38-13 non-conference home victory over Valley City State (N.D.).  He also made a 20-yard field goal in the game for the Blue Hawks.  Johnson recorded seven kick-offs for a total of 376 yards with a long kick-off of 65 yards with two touchbacks.

No. 21-ranked Dickinson State (N.D.) won the battle of NSAA's preseason top two teams picks with a 38-13 non-conference home victory over Valley City State (N.D.) as part of the Dacotah Bank/NSAA Football Game-of-the-Week.  The Blue Hawks had 17-6 halftime lead and cruised to a 25-point victory over the Vikings.  Dickinson State outgained Valley City State 452-307 in total offensive yards.

Jamestown (N.D.) earned their first victory of the season, a 30-13 rout over NCAA Division III Concordia-Moorhead (Minn.).  The Jimmies out-passed Concordia-Moorhead 244-86 in the game.  UJ outscored CM 16-7 in the second half after holding a 14-6 halftime lead.

Dakota State (S.D.) fell short on the road in a high-scoring affair at Dordt (Iowa) 45-42, despite holding a 28-12 second-quarter lead.  The Trojans were outscored by the Defenders 33-14 from late second quarter through fourth quarter.  Despite the loss, Dakota State racked up a total of 572 offensive yards.

Waldorf (Iowa) cruised to a 42-0 shutout home victory over Trinity Bible (N.D.).  The Warriors held the Lions to 23 total offensive yards, while WU racked up a total of 432 yards in the game.

Dickinson State, Valley City State, Jamestown, Dakota State and Waldorf are 1-1 overall record on the season.

Mayville State (N.D.) and Presentation (S.D.) began their season with a home opener victory.  The Comets used 549 offensive yards in the game to defeat NCAA Division III Buena Vista (Iowa) by the score of 42-33.  PC outscored Lawrence (Mich.) 10-0 in the third quarter to break up a 7-7 halftime tie and held to a 17-10 victory, despite only gaining 173 offensive yards in the game.  Both MSU and the Saints are 1-0 overall record.

Looking Ahead
Presentation (S.D.) remains at home on Saturday as they host Briar Cliff (Iowa) of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC).  Kick-off from Swisher Field is set for 12 p.m.

Three other contests involves battle between the NSAA and GPAC on Saturday.  Jamestown (N.D.) stays at their home field, hosting No. 16-ranked Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) at 1 p.m.  Also, No. 21-ranked Dickinson State (N.D.) takes on Northwestern (Iowa) in Dickinson, N.D. (1 p.m. Mountain Time) while Valley City State (N.D.) returns home to host Hastings (Neb.) at 1 p.m.

Dakota State (S.D.) will play its first home game of the season on Saturday.  The Trojans will play a nationally-ranked team for the second time this season, hosting No. 24 Saint Ambrose (Iowa) with a kick-off at 1 p.m. at Trojan Field.

Mayville State (N.D.) heads on the road to Quincy (Ill.) for a non-conference game at 1 p.m.

Waldorf (Iowa) visits No. 13-ranked Kansas Wesleyan in a night-game at 6 p.m.
