Blue Hawk Football Runs Away from Red Raiders in 42-13 Victory

DICKINSON, ND- The Dickinson State University Football team dominated the Red Raiders or Northwestern College (IA) on Saturday at the Biesiot Activities Center by a score of 42-13.

Senior QB Kaler Ray put the Blue Hawks on the board first with a 13 yard TD run on DSU's first drive of the game to but Dickinson State up 7-0 following a Cody Johnson extra point.

Tray Boone then carried in a one yard run for a TD with the first quarter coming to an end to put the Blue Hawks up 14-0 after another Johnson extra point after one quarter of play.

The Red Raiders answered back in the middle of the second quarter when JC Koerselman ran in a one yard TD carry but the Red Raiders could not get the handle on the snap for the extra point and the scramble pass fell incomplete but NWC narrowed the score to 14-6.

On the next DSU drive, Ray connected with Jamion Lindsey for a 38 yard TD and a good extra point by Johnson to get the Blue Hawk lead back to 21-6.

The Blue Hawks finished off the first half with another touchdown run for Boone on a five yard carry to give the Blue Hawks a 28-6 halftime lead.

Robert Sterling kept the scoring going in the third quarter for the Blue Hawks when he intercepted Koerselman's pass and took it 50 yards for a Blue Hawk score putting DSU up 35-6.

Koerselaman then pushed in a one yard touchdown carry for the Red Raiders to cut the Blue Hawk lead to 35-13.

The final scoring of the game came on a 76 yard touchdown pass from Ray to Boone midway through the third quarter to put the Blue Hawks up 42-13. Neither team would score in the fourth quarter.

Ray led the Blue Hawk offense completing 14-22 passes for 332 yards, two passing touchdowns and also ran in a touchdown. Boone led both the rushers and receivers gaining 34 yards on the ground in 10 rushes with two touchdowns and four catches for 112 yards and a touchdown.

Johnson was a perfect 6-6 on extra point attempts for the Blue Hawks.

Sterling led the Blue Hawks defense with seven solo tackles and three assisted tackles with two interceptions. Tommy Sease also recorded seven tackles for the Blue Hawks.

The Blue Hawks collected 16 first downs, 93 yards rushing and 338 yards passing for a total of 431 yards.

The Red Raiders collected 24 first downs, 154 yards rushing and 179 yards passing for a total of 333 yards.

Dickinson State is now 2-1 overall and have a bye-week this coming week before they host the Presentation College Saints in the Blue Hawks NSAA opener on Saturday, September 24th at 1:00 PM at the Biesiot Activities Center.
