Jed Fike & Cody Johnson Named Dacotah Bank/NSAA Football Players-of-the-Week

MADISON, S.D. – The sixth edition of the Dacotah Bank/North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Football Players-of-the-Week was announced by the conference office Monday.  Jed Fike of Dickinson State (N.D.) was selected as Offensive Player-of-the-Week, while his teammate Cody Johnson was named Special Teams Player-of-the-Week.  Nicholas McBeain of Valley City State (N.D.) was chosen as Defensive Player-of-the-Week.

NSAA Football Offensive Player of the Week
Jed Fike – Dickinson State (N.D.) – 5'11" – 200 lbs., Freshman – running back – Harrison, Mont. – Fike helped No. 15-ranked Dickinson State (N.D.) stay undefeated in North Star Athletic Association conference play with a 34-7 road victory at Valley City State (N.D.).  He rushed 9 times for a total of 168 yards and recorded two touchdown runs of 16 yards and 66 yards (which was the longest run of the game).

NSAA Football Defensive Player of the Week
Nicholas McBeain – Valley City State (N.D.) – 6'1" – 240 lbs., Junior – linebacker – Shakopee, Minn. – McBeain tallied a game-high 18 tackles (4 solo), despite Valley City State's (N.D.) 34-7 home loss to No. 15-ranked Dickinson State (N.D.).  He also had a forced fumble and a pass break-up in the game.  McBeain also punted five times for an average of 45.8 yards per punt.    

NSAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Cody Johnson – Dickinson State (N.D.) – 5'10" – 200 lbs., Freshman – kicker – Sidney, Mont. – Johnson made all four PAT extra-point kicks and two field goals, fueling No. 15-ranked Dickinson State (N.D.) stay undefeated in NSAA conference play with a 34-7 road victory at Valley City State (N.D.).  He made 21- and 23-yard field goals for the Blue Hawks.  Johnson recorded seven kick-offs for a total of 419 yards.

Recap from Saturday's games
After a scoreless first quarter in the Dacotah Bank/North Star Athletic Association Football Game-of-the-Week, No. 15 Dickinson State (N.D.) scored 34 straight points and never looked back as they defeated Valley City State (N.D.) 34-7 in Valley City, N.D.  The Blue Hawks outgained the Vikings 504-187 in total offensive yards and held VCSU to just 12 first-downs in the game.  Dickinson State rushed for a total of 315 yards in 44 carries compared to Valley City State 69 rushing yards in 31 attempts.  The Blue Hawks had won four straight games to lift their overall record to 5-1 and 2-0 in NSAA conference.  The Vikings fell to 2-3 overall record and 1-1 NSAA record.

Leading 16-13 before entering the fourth quarter, No. 20 Dakota State (S.D.) scored on three straight possessions and outscored Waldorf (Iowa) 21-0 for a 37-13 North Star Athletic Association conference victory in Forest City, Iowa.  The Trojans recorded 457 offensive yards compared to the Warriors 335 offensive yards.  DaSU also registered 25 first-downs while WU had 18 first-downs.  Dakota State extended their winning streak to four games and raised their overall record to 5-1 and 2-0 NSAA conference.  Waldorf dropped to 1-5 overall and 0-2 NSAA conference record.

Presentation (S.D.) improved to 3-1 overall record (0-1 NSAA) after a 58-2 rout at Trinity Bible (N.D.).  The Saints racked up a total of 551 offensive yards in 61 plays while holding the Lions to 214 offensive yards in 65 plays. 

Jamestown (N.D.) (1-4, 0-1 NSAA) and Mayville State (N.D.) (2-2, 0-0 NSAA) were idle last Saturday.

Looking Ahead
Three North Star Athletic Association conference games are scheduled for this Saturday at 1 p.m. (Central Time).  Waldorf (Iowa) remains at home as they host No. 15-ranked Dickinson State (N.D.).  Mayville State (N.D.) returns back to action as they welcome Valley City State (N.D.).  Jamestown (N.D.) is slated to host Presentation (S.D.).

No. 20-ranked Dakota State (S.D.) will be idle this Saturday and won't return back to action on Oct. 15 as they host Valley City State.
