Jerry Shevlin named NSAA Men’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week

MADISON, S.D. – Jerry Shevlin of Dickinson State (N.D.) was chosen to the fifth edition of the North Star Athletic Association Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week, announced by the conference office Monday.

Jerry Shevlin – Dickinson State (N.D.) – 6'5" – Junior – Guard – Santa Monica, Calif. – Shevlin led Dickinson State (N.D.) to a pair of North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) conference road victories.  He recorded 21 points (5-of-7 field goals, including 3-of-3 from the 3-point line and made all eight free-throw attempts) in 84-81 thriller at Jamestown (N.D.).  He also pulled down three rebounds and contributed five assists.  Shevlin followed up with 16 points on his 6-of-9 field goals, including another 3-of-3 showing from the 3-point arc.  He recorded two assists and a rebound.  For the week, Shevlin averaged 18.5 points, 3.5 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game.  He was 11-of-16 from the field (68.6 percent) and drained all six (6) 3-pointers.  He was 9-of-10 from the free-throw line.

Valley City State (N.D.) extended their winning streak to six games after opening up the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) conference season with a pair of road wins.  The Vikings held on to a 70-65 victory at Mayville State (N.D.) on Dec. 2 and rallied back for an 88-82 victory at Presentation (S.D.) on Dec. 3.  VCSU is 9-4 overall record and 2-0 record in the North Star.

Dickinson State (N.D.) also opened the NSAA conference season with a pair of road victories, defeating Jamestown (N.D.) 84-81 on Dec. 2.  The Blue Hawks raised their overall record to 7-4 and 2-0 NSAA after cruising to an 81-58 win at Mayville State on Dec. 3.  MSU is 6-3 overall record and 0-2 NSAA after a pair of home losses.

Presentation (S.D.) opened up their North Star conference schedule by hanging on to a 78-69 victory over Dakota State (S.D.) on Dec. 2.  PC is 3-5 overall record and 1-1 NSAA.

Waldorf (Iowa) started their North Star conference play on the road on Dec. 3.  The Warriors upset No. 21-ranked Viterbo (Wis.) by the score of 75-53.  WU lifted their overall record to 4-6 and 1-0 NSAA.

The V-Hawks began their conference play with a 77-69 home victory over Bellevue (Neb.) on Dec. 2.  VU is 6-4 overall record and 1-1 NSAA conference record.  BU is 5-6 overall record and 0-1 NSAA record.

Jamestown dominated Oak Hills (Minn.) by the score of 116-58 on Nov. 29.  The Jimmies concluded their home stand with a 90-81 double overtime victory over the Trojans on Dec. 4.  UJ is 5-6 overall record and 1-1 NSAA conference record.  DaSU fell to 3-8 overall record and 0-2 record in North Star conference play.

Looking Ahead This Week
No. 21-ranked Viterbo (Wis.) is set to visit NCAA Division III Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Wednesday evening.  Also on the same night, Bellevue (Neb.) hosts No. 25-ranked Bellevue (Neb.).  Mayville State (N.D.) is slated to visit NCAA Division III Minnesota-Morris and Presentation (S.D.) hosts Trinity Bible (N.D.).

The North Star conference play resumes on Friday evening with the V-Hawks hosting Jamestown (N.D.).  Valley City State (N.D.) return home for a contest with Dakota State (S.D.) and Dickinson State (N.D.) hosting the Bruins.  Waldorf (Iowa) is scheduled for a non-conference home game versus Mount Marty (S.D.).

On Saturday, three NSAA conference games are on schedule.  UJ visits WU, PC hosts MSU and VCSU welcomes BU.
