Blue Hawks hold off Saints for a hard fought win

ABERDEEN, SD – The Dickinson State University Blue Hawk Men's Basketball team soared to a 90-85 North Star Athletic Association win over the Presentation College Saints on Friday night behind a great team defensive effort.

The Blue Hawks trailed Presentation College at halftime with a score of 39-44 and the Blue Hawks outscored the Saints in the second half with a 51-41 score to win the contest with a final score of 90-85.

The Blue Hawks were led in the scoring department by junior Ryan Clark with 16 points. Seniors Dontae Clark and Gilberto Shojgreen Jr. also scored in double digits for the Blue Hawks with 14 points each. Senior Reggie Fields Jr. and junior Ryan Clark led the Blue Hawks with 7 total rebounds each. Junior Terrell Butler, Gilberto Shojgreen Jr. and Dontae Clark also pulled down 6 total rebounds  each for the Blue Hawks in the win. Dontae Clark led the Blue Hawks with a total of 5 assists for the game.

Presentation College was led by senior guard Donnell Minton with 32 points, 8 rebounds and 1 assist. Junior guard Aaron Samuels added 15 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists for the Saints.

Dickinson State shot 46 percent from the field, 29 percent from three and 69 percent from the free throw line. The Blue Hawks recorded a total of 40 rebounds, 13 assists, 5 blocks, 5 steals and 11 turnovers.

Presentation College shot 45 percent from the field, 44 percent from three and 68 percent from the free throw line. The Saints recorded a total of 36 rebounds, 0 blocks, 13 turnovers, 9 assists and 5 steals.

The Presentation College Saints fall to 8-10 overall and 2-5 in NSAA play.

The Blue Hawks are now 13-7 and 5-2 NSAA. The Blue Hawks next contest will be on Monday January 16th, 2017 against North Star Conference rival Valley City State University in Valley City, North Dakota.

The Blue Hawks next home contest will be on Friday, January 20th, 2017 as they host North Star Conference rival Valley City State University at 7:30p.m. (MDT) in Scott Gymnasium.
