DICKINSON, ND- Salish Kootenai College Bison came to Scott Gymnasium to take on the Blue Hawks. The two teams met earlier in the year, resulting in a Blue Hawk win.
The Blue Hawks came out slow on Friday night. The Bison jumped out to a quick 9-2 lead. Coach Josh Vaughan quickly took a timeout to get a trio of substitutions onto the floor to settle things down for his team. The Blue Hawks did just that and took their first lead at 17-15. From their the Blue Hawks pushed their lead to 10 where they would hold it through the end of the half. The Blue Hawks took a 45-35 lead into halftime. Throughout the fast paced first half Ryan Clark led the Blue Hawks with 10 points, Marcus White netted 9 and grabbed a team-high 4 rebounds. The Blue Hawks shot well from the field, but struggled from the free throw line only making 50%.
The Blue Hawks came out stronger in the second half. With a four Brian Neal 3-pointers the Blue Hawks continued to expand their lead to twenty. From their Coach Vaughan brought in a new five into the game, getting his reserves minutes early in the season. Coach Vaughan's new lineup didn't miss a beat and continued to push the lead for the Blue Hawks. With 3-pointers coming from Devon Loy, Carter Gallo, Akeem Williams, Konner Goettsche, Terrell Butler, and Tanner Davidson the Blue Hawks saw their lead grow to fourty. The Blue Hawks went 15 for 22 for three in the second half. The strong play in the second half pushed the Hawks lead from ten at half to fifty with their 122-72 win.
Goettsche led the Blue Hawks with 23 points and DSU had six players in the multiple digits. Goettsche also tallied 10 rebounds to put together a double-double on the evening.
A Look Ahead: The Blue Hawks next game will be next Thursday when they head north to take on Minot State in an exhibition game. The teams next game in Scott Gymnasium will be November 27th when they take on the Yellowstone Christian College Centurions.
