Blue Hawk Golf Opens Spring Season

BILLINGS, MONT. – The Dickinson State University golf team opened their season in the two-day MSU-Billings Yellowjacket Spring Invite at Lake Hills Golf Course. The women's Blue Hawk team finished fourth in the field with a two-round total of 726.  On the men's side, the Blue Hawks finished sixth with a three-round total of 1001.

The tournament opened Monday to perfect weather and the Blue Hawks took advantage with their first opportunity to compete in the spring. Freshman, Breilyn Riggin lead the women's team with her opening round 84. Fellow freshman, Jace Steier joined Riggin in the eighties. Steier tallied a first round 89. 

The men's team took on 36 holes in the first day of competition. Senior, Parker Robinson carded the low score in the first round with a nine-over 81. In the opening round, Carter Klein followed up Robinson with an 82. In the second round, Jaret Lee shot a team best five-over 77, finishing the first day with a 160 total. Klein and Robinson dropped several shots in the second round, shooting 85 and 84 respectively. 

The second day of the tournament brought wind and colder weather for the Blue Hawks. The women's team had another pair shoot in the eighties. Aimee Kittilson and Riley Helmick each finished with a second round 89. Natalee Hafer also shot her best score of the week with a 92. Riggin battled the weather to a 96 in the second round, finishing with a team best 180 total.  Riggin was trailed by Kittilson with a 182 total and Helmick who finished with 183. 

In the second round, Klein stayed steady firing an 84. Klein finished with a 251 tournament total. Lee and Robinson took a step back in their third rounds. Lee shot an 86, still finishing with a team best 246. Robinson's third round 89 put his tournament total at 254. Senior, Zach Miller shot the best score for the Blue Hawks in the third round. Miller's 80 led to a 250 total. 

The remainder of the Blue Hawk golf team's spring schedule is weather pending. Currently, the North Star Athletic Association tournament is scheduled for Wedgewood Cove Golf Course in Albert Lea, Minn. April 30- May 1.
