MADISON, S.D. – The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) announced its final edition of the Outdoor Track & Field weekly honors based on the performances during the conference meet from May 11-13 in Forest City, Iowa, announced by the conference office Monday. Ty Malone of Dickinson State (N.D.) was named to Field Athlete-of-the-Week, while Matthew Yong of Jamestown (N.D.) was honored as its Track Athlete-of-the-Week.
North Star Athletic Association Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
Ty Malone – Dickinson State (N.D.) – Junior – Robertson, Wyo. – Malone registered a total of 24 points at the NSAA conference meet for Dickinson State (N.D.). He claimed the hammer throw title after tossing a measurement of 46.42 meters (152 feet, 3 inches). Malone was second in the shot put (13.98 meters – 45 feet, 10.5 inches) and third in the discus throw (37.45 meters – 122 feet, 10 inches).
North Star Athletic Association Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
Matthew Young – Jamestown (N.D.) – Freshman – Woodland, Wash. – Young dominated the long-distance events during the NSAA's conference meet, racking up a total of 36 points in the meet for Jamestown (N.D.). He clocked a conference meet record time of 4 minutes, 6.81 seconds to win the 1500-meters race. Young added two other individual titles, winning the 800-meter run in 1:59.88 and 5000-meter run in 16 minutes, 9.22 seconds for the Jimmies. He also ran a leg on the UJ's 4 x 800-meter relay team, where they finished third after posting a time of 8 minutes, 31.96 seconds.
The NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships take place in Gulf Shores, Ala. from May 26-28. The national meet will be held at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium.
