MADISON, S.D. – The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) conference announced its final edition of the Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes-of-the-Week honors Monday. Dickinson State (N.D.) swept the weekly honors as Ty Malone was honored as Field Athlete-of-the-Week, while his teammate Cain Boschee was named as Track Athlete-of-the-Week.
North Star Athletic Association Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
Ty Malone – Dickinson State (N.D.) – Senior – Robertson, Wyo. – Malone was named to North Star Athletic Association Most Valuable Field-of-the-Meet in the conference meet, propelling Dickinson State (N.D.) to their third consecutive league team title. He won the shot put event by setting the North Star conference meet record of 14.83 meters (48 feet, 8 inches). Malone was also second in the hammer throw with a measurement of 45.24 meters (148 feet, 5 inches) and fifth in the discus throw with a distance of 39.41 meters (129 feet, 3 inches). He scored a total of 20 points in the conference meet.
North Star Athletic Association Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
Cain Boschee – Dickinson State (N.D.) – Sophomore – Kalispell, Mont. – Boschee claimed four different titles at the North Star Athletic Association conference track meet, fueling Dickinson State (N.D.) to their third straight conference team title. He was a member of the Blue Hawks' 4 x 100-meter relay team that edged Dakota State (S.D.) in a thrilling race, with the time separating just .002 seconds (45.958 seconds to 42.960 seconds). Boschee also won the 100-meter dash in 10.84 seconds and 200-meter dash in 21.73 seconds. He finished the day being on a member of the Blue Hawks' 4 x 400-meter winning team after clocking a 3 minutes, 26.95 seconds.
2017 North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championships Recap
Dickinson State (N.D.) rolled to their third consecutive North Star Athletic Association Men's Outdoor Track & Field conference team title during the two-day meet at Al Cassell Field in Jamestown, N.D. The Blue Hawks racked up a total of 218 points in the conference meet.
Dakota State (S.D.) made the biggest jump sitting sixth-place after the first day and rose up to second place on the second day in the team standings with 116 points. Waldorf (Iowa) was third with 101 points. Only three points separated between fourth through sixth place, where Jamestown (N.D.) finished fourth with 83.5 points. Viterbo (Wis.) was fifth with 81 points while Valley City State (N.D.) was sixth with 80.5 points.
Nick Walker of Dickinson State was named as the Coach-of-the-Year.
The NAIA Men's Outdoor Track & Field National Championships will be held in Gulf Shores, Ala. on May 25-27.
