DICKINSON, ND- Ben Shroyer, Dickinson State University Head Cross Country Coach, is pleased to announce the signing of Clay Goich to join the Dickinson State University Cross Country and Track & Field teams.
"I chose to sign with DSU because the coaches care and talk about all of their athletes not just the top few. I also liked the academic programs and feel like DSU is for me," stated Goich.
Clay is a senior at Rock Springs High School in Rock Springs, WY.
At DSU, Goich will participate in the 3200m, 1600m and 800m in track while also doing the 5000m in cross country.
Clay plans to major in Exercise Science at DSU and is the son of Tammy Valdez and Nicholas Goich.
Goich is a two year Wyoming Class 4A State Cross Country Championship Qualifier, with a highest finish of 19th place overall in 2014 and a member of the state runner-up team at the 2014 and 2015 Wyoming Class 4A State Cross Country Championships.
He is also a member of the 4th place 4x800 relay team at the 2016 Wyoming Class 4A State Indoor Track & Field Championships and placed 15th overall at the 2015 Wyoming Class 4A State Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 3200m run.
His personal records include 5k (XC)- 16:56, 3200- 10:27, 1600- 4:47and 800- 2:08.
“It’s very exciting to sign another talented student-athlete from Wyoming," said Shroyer. "When Clay was on campus to visit, I was impressed by his interest in our University and Cross Country/Track & Field program. We want student-athletes here at Dickinson State that want to be a part of our community. I saw that desire in Clay and am excited to have him join the Blue Hawk Nation this fall. Clay comes from a very successful program in Rock Springs and knows what it takes to be a successful distance runner. He will transition well to the collegiate arena and add another level of depth to our men’s team in 2016.”
