DICKINSON, ND- The Dickinson State University Men's Cross Country team has signed Nicholas Wittkopp, a NJCAA All-American from Ranger College in Ranger, Texas.
When asked why he chose to sign with DSU, Wittkopp stated "DSU believes that I can be better than I am."
Nicholas has been named to the All-American 1/2 Marathon Coaches Association as well as the Coaches Association Academic All-American Cross Country team in 2014 and 2015 as well as NJCAA Academic All-American in 2015.
Wittkopp earned All-American honors at the 2015 NJCAA Half Marathon National Championships placing 18th overall in 1:13:18.80 and was a 2015 NJCAA DI Cross Country National Championships Qualifier.
His personal records include 8k (XC)- 26:39, Half-Marathon: 1:13:18, 10k- 34:21, 5k- 15:31 and 3k- 9:08.
Wittkopp plans to major in Environmental Science at Dickinson State University.
Nicholas is the son of Joe James Wittkopp and Marita Wittkopp.
He enjoys soccer, reading, biking, swimming, running, hiking, camping, kayaking, spelunking, canoeing, fishing, writing and bow shooting.
“I am thrilled that Nicholas has decided to continue his education and collegiate running career with Dickinson State," stated DSU Head Cross Country Coach Ben Shroyer. "He has had a successful career at Ranger College and has really come on fire with his running the past year setting PRs in all races from 3k up to the Half Marathon. Nicholas will be one of the leaders of our men’s cross country team next fall and has the potential to be an All-American contender in the Marathon. He is also an excellent student in the classroom, bringing a 3.755 GPA to Dickinson State and various academic accolades. I look forward to watching Nicholas continue to develop the next two years as a Blue Hawk!”
