MAYVILLE, ND- The Dickinson State University Softball team defeated the Mayville State University Comets in three of four games last weekend.
GM 1: DSU 9 MSU 3
Dickinson State raced out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first two innings and continued to add on from there only allowing 3 Comet runs in the bottom of the 7 inning for the final tally.
Rachael Dillon led the Blue Hawks going 4-4 on the day with 2 doubles, a homerun, and 3 RBI. Brianna Grayson went 3-4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI, while McKenzie Kenobbie, Andrea Rodriguez, Kayla Stephens, and McKenzie Basset all added hits.
The final line score for the Blue Hawks showed 9 runs on 11 hits with 0 errors. The Comets scored 3 runs on 7 hits and committed 3 errors.
GM 2: DSU 7 MSU 3
The Comets would get ahead early going up 1-0 in the first inning, but the Blue Hawks would answer with 4 runs in the top of the second. They never relinquished their lead adding runs in the 3rd and 6th innings as well.
McKenzie Kenobbie lead the Blue Hawks at the plate going 3-4 with an RBI. Brenda Cruz went 2-2 with an RBI, while McKenzie Bassett also added a couple of hits going 2-4 with an RBI. Kayla Stephens, Brianna Grayson, Mariah Gamboa, Abigail Brooks, and Hanna Andrysiak all chipped in with one hit apiece.
Brooks would also pick up the complete game win for the Blue Hawks going 7 innings and allowing 3 runs on 8 hits. She would walk 4 and strike out 2 on the day.
DSU scored 7 runs on 13 hits and committed 0 errors. MSU scored 3 runs on 8 hits and committed 1 error.
GM 3: MSU 1 DSU 0
Dickinson State would drop a tough one to open day 2 against Mayville State 1-0. The Comets and Blue Hawks were scoreless through 5 ½ innings until MSU managed to push a run across in the bottom of the 6th inning to go ahead.
Dickinson State only managed 2 hits, coming from McKenzie Kenobbie and Andrea Rodriguez. Abigail Brooks had another solid outing despite picking up the loss, going 6 innings and allowing 1 run on 6 hits. She walked only 1 and struck out 5.
DSU scored 0 runs on 2 hits and committed 0 defensive errors. MSU scored 1 runs on 6 hits and committed 0 errors.
GM 4: DSU 10 MSU 0 (6 innings)
The Dickinson State offense would not be held in check much longer as it exploded for 10 runs to power them to a 10-0 win to clinch the weekend series against Mayville State 3-1.
The Blue Hawks offense was led by 3 hits apiece from McKenzie Kenobbie and Brianna Grayson. Kayla Stephens, Jalen Creech and McKenzie Bassett would also add 2 hits. Hanna Andrysiak and Mariah Gamboa would add doubles to go along with the one hit by Creech. Rachael Dillon would also add a hit for DSU.
Jalen Creech threw a gem for the Blue Hawks going all 6 innings and allowing 0 runs on only 3 hits. She struck out 9 Comet batters and issued no walks.
DSU scored 10 runs on 15 hits and committed 0 errors. MSU scored 0 runs on 3 hits and committed 2 errors.
DSU is now 16-20 (11-7 NSAA) on the year.
The Blue Hawks will now travel to Presentation College this weekend to play a four game NSAA series on Saturday and Sunday.
