Blue Hawks take final NSAA series 3-1 over Viterbo

DICKINSON, ND- The Dickinson State University Softball team defeated the Viterbo University V-Hawks in three of four games last weekend to end the 2017 regular season.

GM 1: DSU 9 VU 0

The Blue Hawks used a balanced hitting attack and solid pitching to secure the 9-0 victory of Viterbo University in game 1 of their NSAA weekend series.

McKenzie Kenobbie led DSU going 3-3 on the day. Brianna Grayson went 2-3 with a double while Hanna Andrysiak went 1-1 with a double as well. Rachael Dillon added a homerun, while Kayla Stephens and Abigail Brooks both added a hit.

Abigail Brooks picked up the complete game victory going 5 innings allowing 0 runs on 4 hits while walking no one and striking out 3.

The final line score for the Blue Hawks showed 9 runs on 9 hits with 1 error. The V-Hawks scored 0 runs on 4 hits and committed 5 errors.

GM 2: VU 4 DSU 2 (10 innings)

Another weekend, another extra innings game for the Blue Hawks softball team. Unfortunately, the V-Hawks from Viterbo University would emerge victorious 4-2 after 10 innings.

The Blue Hawks managed the only extra base hit of the game, a Hanna Andrysiak double. Rachael Dillon led DSU going 3-5. Brianna Grayson had 2 hits, while McKenzie Kenobbie, Andrea Rodriguez, Jalen Creech, and McKenna Kostelecky all added one hit.

Jalen Creech got the start for Dickinson State going 8.2 innings and allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. She walked only 1 V-Hawks batter, and struck out 7. Abigail Brooks took the loss in relief pitching the final 1.1 innings and allowing 2 runs on 5 hits.

DSU scored 2 runs on 9 hits and committed 0 errors. VU scored 4 runs on 11 hits and committed 2 errors.

GM 3: DSU 8 VU 2

DSU would bounce back from a tough loss on Saturday to take game 3 of the weekend series 8-2 over Viterbo University.  

Rebecca Lopez led the offense going 3-3. Kayla Stephens and Brianna Grayson added 2 hits apiece, while McKenna Kostelecky and Hanna Andrysiak doubled, and McKenzie Kenobbie and Andrea Rodriguez singled.

Abigail Brooks picked up another complete game win going all 7 innings and allowing 2 runs on 6 hits. She walked 2 and struck out 2.

DSU scored 8 runs on 9 hits and committed 1 defensive error. VU scored 2 runs on 6 hits and committed 2 errors.

GM 4: DSU 5 VU 1

DSU used 2 runs in both the 4th and 5th innings to break a 1-1 tie and earn a 5-1 victory in the regular season finale against Viterbo University.

McKenzie Kenobbie went 4-4 to lead the offense, while Brianna Grayson went 2-3 with a double and Andrea Rodriguez, Rachael Dillon, and Hanna Andrysiak all added singles.

Jalen Creech picked up the complete game win going all 7 innings and allowing only 1 run on 6 hits. She walked 3 and struck out 8.   

DSU scored 5 runs on 9 hits and committed 3 errors. VU scored 1 runs on 6 hits and committed 1 error.

DSU finishes the regular season at 22-22 (17-9 NSAA) and has earned the number 3 seed at the NSAA conference tournament next week in Dickinson. They will face the 6-seed Valley City State University in the opening round of the double elimination tournament.
