Rachael Dillon Named NSAA Softball Player of the Week

MADISON, S.D. – The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) announced its seventh edition of the Softball Players-of-the-Week on Monday.  Rachael Dillon of Dickinson State (N.D.) was chosen to the Player-of-the-Week for the second time this season.  Kat Miska of Jamestown (N.D.) was selected to the Pitcher-of-the-Week.

Rachael Dillon – Dickinson State (N.D.) – 5'9" – Senior – Center Field – Billings, Mont. – Dillon recorded a batting average of .625 and a slugging percentage of 1.750 as Dickinson State (N.D.) went 3-1 record with Waldorf (Iowa) in the North Star's four-game series.  She was 5-of-8 at the plate with three home runs – with a pair of home runs coming in the first game of the four-game series – and drove in five runs.    Dillon also reached on the base by a walk seven times and scored six runs during the series.

Kat Miska – Jamestown (N.D.) – 6'0" – Sophomore – Pitcher – Breezy Point, Minn. – Miska earned a pair of victories in the pitching circle as No. 16-ranked Jamestown (N.D.) went 4-0 record in the North Star triangular with Dakota State (S.D.) and Viterbo (Wis.).  She posted double-digit strikeouts games in winning both of her starts in the triangular.  She tossed a four-hit shutout over the V-Hawks where the Jimmies won 8-0 in five innings.  In that game, she struck out 13 batters, which is one off of UJ's single-game record of 14 strikeouts.  For the week, Miska accumulated 24 strikeouts in 11 innings of work and gave up just two runs on seven hits.

No. 16-ranked Jamestown (N.D.) went 4-0 record in the North Star conference triangular with Dakota State (S.D.) and Viterbo (Wis.) at PC Dome.  The Jimmies held on to defeat the Trojans 3-1 and 9-2 on April 5.  UJ followed up with another sweep over VU 5-2 and 8-0 in five innings on April 7.  Jamestown lifted their overall record to 29-6 and 12-3 record in league play, which leads the North Star conference. 

Dakota State bounced back in the winning column with 7-3 and 6-3 wins over Viterbo on April 6.  The Trojans improved their overall record to 15-18 and 9-7 NSAA conference record (fourth-place in the conference standings).  The V-Hawks fell to 7-21 overall record and 3-13 record in the North Star contests (ninth-place in the standings).

Valley City State (N.D.), receiving votes in the latest NAIA Softball Coaches' Top 25 national poll, swept a doubleheader at Bellevue (Neb.) on April 5.  The Vikings won the first game by the score of 2-1 and cruised to an 11-1 victory in the second game.  Their final two games of the four-game series were canceled due to poor weather conditions.  Valley City State is 27-8 overall record and 10-3 NSAA conference record, a game behind the conference's leader Jamestown.  Bellevue, who swept Hastings (Neb.) 12-2 in five innings and 7-1 on April 4, is 24-17 overall record to 24-17 and 6-7 NSAA conference record (fifth-place in the standings).

Dickinson State (N.D.) went 3-1 record in the North Star's four-game series with Waldorf (Iowa) at PC Dome on April 6-7.  The Blue Hawks won the series opener 3-2, while the Warriors won the second game by the score of 11-6 in eight innings.  DiSU went on to sweep WU on the second day by the scores of 5-4 in nine innings and 11-3.  Dickinson State is 18-14 overall record and 9-6 NSAA conference record (third-place in the conference standings).  Waldorf is 6-22 overall record.

Mayville State (N.D.) won the first game of the NSAA four-game series with Presentation (S.D.) at PC Dome on April 6-7 by the score of 4-3.  The Saints then took the next three games by the scores of 1-0, 4-1 and 2-1.  Presentation is 16-21 overall record and 7-9 NSAA conference record (sixth-place in the conference standings).  Mayville State is 10-19 overall record.

Mayville State and Waldorf are tied for eighth in the North Star with a 6-10 conference record.

Looking Ahead
Viterbo (Wis.) returns home Tuesday as they host Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) in a non-conference doubleheader.  Waldorf (Iowa) heads to Northwestern (Iowa) for a doubleheader on the same day.

Mayville State (N.D.) was originally the host for this weekend's North Star conference triangular with Bellevue (Neb.) and Dickinson State (N.D.).  The triangular now has been moved to Bellevue, Neb., starting on Thursday and continue through Friday.

No. 16-ranked Jamestown (N.D.) is scheduled to play a doubleheader at NCAA Division II Minnesota-Crookston on Thursday.

On Saturday and Sunday, Dakota State (S.D.) and Valley City State (N.D.) are scheduled to play in a four-game series with location to be announced on a later date.  Jamestown remains on the road as they Waldorf (Iowa).  Viterbo hosts Presentation (S.D.).
