DICKINSON, ND- The Dickinson State University Women's basketball team defeated Viterbo University on Wednesday night in the opening round game of the NSAA tournament.
The only lead Viterbo had all night was when they were up 3-0, one minute into the game. The rest of the game, the Blue Hawks were pretty dominant.
The Blue Hawks outscored the V-Hawks 25-13 in the first quarter and 24-16 in the second quarter, leading to a 49-29 halftime lead.
Dickinson State shot 54 percent from the field, 43 percent form three and 73 percent from the line in the first half while the V-Hawks shot 37 percent from the field, 36 percent from three and 43 percent from the line.
In the second half, the Blue Hawks outscored the V-Hawks 18-14 in the third quarter and 16-6 in the fourth quarter, leading to a 83-49 victory.
The Blue Hawks finished the game shooting 44 percent from the field, 33 percent from three and 81 percent from the line with 52 rebounds, 18 assists, 14 turnovers, four blocks and 18 steals.
The V-Hawks finished the game shooting 31 percent from the field, 25 percent from three and 48 percent from the line with 36 rebounds, 10 assists, 25 turnovers and five steals.
Heidi Huebner led the V-Hawks with 13 points while Arissa Geiser finished with 12 points in the loss.
Viterbo finishes their season with a 6-23 overall record.
Dickinson State is now 22-7 overall and will host Valley City State University at 6:00 PM (MDT) on Friday, February 26th in Scott Gymnasium.
