Dickinson, ND – Dickinson State University women's basketball coach Liz Lewis is pleased to announce the signing of Brook Janz to an NAIA National Letter of Intent for the Blue Hawks. Janz is a 5-foot-11 guard from Sturgis Brown High School in Sturgis, SD.
"Brook is coming off of a very successful high school career and will add a lot of versatility to our guard rotation. She is incredibly long and athletic, and has the ability to score inside and out. Another thing that really stood out to me is her ability to rebound. Brook is a competitor, and I think she will fit very well into our style of play this next year," said Coach Lewis.
While at Sturgis, Janz was a four-year letter winner in the sport of basketball. She earned Rookie of the Year honors her freshman season and was named Defensive MVP her sophomore season. During her junior season, Janz was named Subway Athlete of the Week and Booster Club Athlete of the week, and she was named Keeper of the Boards for two seasons.
Janz earned Black Hills All-Conference honors for three consecutive seasons and garnered Second Team All-State honors her senior season in Class AA, the highest division in South Dakota. Janz also was named Black Hills Pioneer Athlete of the Week and was a two-time Offensive MVP for the Scoopers. During her senior campaign, Janz averaged nearly a double-double with 16 points and 9 rebounds per game and shot 46% from the field.
Janz is also a competitor in the classroom posting Academic All-State accolades and Northern Hills Academic All-State honors. She was on the High Honor Roll all four years of her high school career.
Brook will pursue a degree in nursing while attending DSU. "I chose Dickinson State because they have an amazing nursing program that works with me doing what I love and that's playing basketball."
