Interim Tag Removed From Blue Hawk Wrestling Head Coach Justin Schlecht

DICKINSON, ND- Justin Schlecht has formally been named Dickinson State's Head Wrestling Coach after coaching the 2016 season for the Blue Hawks as the Interim Head Coach.

Schlecht led the Blue Hawk Wrestling team to an 8th place finish at the 2016 NAIA National Wrestling Meet.

In 2016, Coach Schlecht helped produce four NAIA All-Americans. Taylor Hodel finished 3rd at 165, Jonathan Solano finished 4th at 184, Lane Oversen finished 6th at 184 and Hudson Buck finished 5th at 197.

"Justin showed us this year that he is the right guy to lead our wrestling program," stated Dickinson State Athletic Director Tim Daniel. "He has an outstanding love for wrestling and is a great recruiter. He will continue to bring in great student-athletes and mold them into even better students and wrestlers."

The Whitewood, S.D. native finished his career with 69 pins and a 140-22 overall record. He was 17-1 in four national tournament appearances with 13 pins.

Justin is married to Meagan Schlecht, who also holds a bachelor degree from DSU.  They have 2 daughters Katy (5) and Sophy (3), who are big fans of DSU wrestling.

"The opportunity to take over such a successful program is a great honor and responsibility.   Coach O'Donnell has done a great job during his great coaching career, and I couldn't ask for a better role model/mentor.  He has taught me a lot about being a wrestler, a leader and about being a coach.  While being a former athlete and coaching along with Coach O'Donnell, I have learned a lot of great skills and built a lot of similar philosophies," said Schlecht.
