Leuenberger & Grove Named NSAA Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week

MADISON, S.D. – The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) has announced its second edition of the Women's Outdoor Track & Field weekly honor Tuesday.  Whitney Leuenberger of Dickinson State was named to Field Athlete-of-the-Week.  Brittney Grove of Dickinson State and Rebecca Opoulos of Jamestown (N.D.) were selected as Co-Track Athlete-of-the-Week.

Whitney Leuenberger – Dickinson State (N.D.) – Junior – Sidney, Mont. – Leuenberger of Dickinson State (N.D.) took home a pair of first-place finishes in the shot put and discus throw at the Carroll College (Mont.) Open.  Her mark of 13.12 meters (43 feet, 0.5 inches) meets the national qualifying mark in shot put.  Leuenberger also claimed the discus throw title with a measurement of 37.72 meters (123 feet, 9 inches).

Brittney Grove – Dickinson State (N.D.) – Freshman – Billings, Mont. – Grove placed second out of 249 runners in her marathon debut in the All-American Marathon in Fayetteville, N.C. for Dickinson State (N.D.).  She clocked a time of 3 hours, 16 minutes and 53 seconds, producing a national qualifying time for the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Nationals in full marathon.  Grove's time also meets the qualifying standards for the 2017 Boston Marathon.

Rebecca Opoulos – Jamestown (N.D.) – Freshman – Sterling, Utah – Opoulos of Jamestown (N.D.) qualified for the NAIA National Outdoor Track & Field Championships in her first-ever race over the 400-meter hurdles in the Bronco Invitational.  She clocked a time of 1 minute, 4.04 seconds to finish fourth overall and moved onto Jimmie 'Top 10' list into a sixth-best time.  Opoulos also ran a 60.6 seconds anchor leg on UJ's 4 x 400-meter relay team that ran 4:07.56. 

Looking Ahead
Viterbo (Wis.) is scheduled to compete in the Wisconsin Private College Championship on Saturday in Waukesha, Wis.

Also on Saturday, Dakota State (S.D.) makes their second trip to Sioux Falls, S.D. within six days as they compete in the University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) Open.  Dickinson State (N.D.) and Valley City State (N.D.) head to Bismarck, N.D. to compete in the Al Borke Open hosted by the University of Mary (N.D.).

Waldorf (Iowa) will be in Decorah, Iowa to participate in the Norse Relays on Saturday.
