Leuenberger & Honeyman Earn NSAA Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week

MADISON, S.D. – Dickinson State (N.D.) swept the seventh edition of the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Women's Outdoor Track & Field weekly honors, announced by the conference office Tuesday.  Whitney Leuenberger was selected as Field Athlete-of-the-Week, while Abby Honeyman was named to Track Athlete-of-the-Week.

Whitney Leuenberger – Dickinson State (N.D.) – Junior – Sidney, Mont. – Blue Hawk Leuenberger won both discus and shot put at their own home meet, the Dickinson State University Tune-Up Meet.  Her mark in the discus is her second-best of the season (41.03 meters—134 feet, 7 inches) and she continues to maintain status as one of the top throwers within the NSAA in her events.  Leuenberger tops in the women's shot put with a measurement of 41 feet, 3 inches (12.57 meters).  She was third in the women's javelin throw in 31.53 meters (103 feet, 5 inches).

Abby Honeyman – Dickinson State (N.D.) – Sophomore – Regent, N.D. – DiSU's Honeyman ran a personal beset to win both the 100-meter dash and 100-meter hurdles at the Dickinson State (N.D.) Tune-Up meet.  Her performance in the 100-meter hurdles met the NAIA automatic qualifying standards for the 2016 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, clocking a time of 14.47 seconds with a first-place finish in the event.  Honeyman also claimed the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.39 seconds.

Looking Ahead
Waldorf (Iowa) will be the host of this week's North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Outdoor Track & Field Conference Meet, kicking off Wednesday with a women's two-day heptathlon and men's decathlon at Beebe Track in Forest City, Iowa.

The full day of events are scheduled for Friday, starting at 10 a.m. with the field events.  The running events will begin at 12 p.m.
