Leuenberger & Honeyman earn Final NSAA Women’s Outdoor Track & Field weekly honors

MADISON, S.D. – The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) announced its final installment of the Track & Field weekly honors by the conference office Monday.  Seri Geisler of Valley City State (N.D.) and Whitney Leuenberger of Dickinson State (N.D.) were selected as Co-Field Athlete-of-the-Week.  Abby Honeyman of Dickinson State (N.D.) was named as Track Athlete-of-the-Week.

Co-North Star Athletic Association Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
Seri Geisler – Valley City State (N.D.) – Sophomore – Grand Rapids, Minn. – Geisler earned a pair of throwing titles at the North Star Athletic Association conference meet for Valley City State (N.D.).  She won the javelin throw after posting the NSAA conference meet record of 46.28 meters (151 feet, 10 inches).  Geisler also won the shot put title, recording a new North Star conference meet distance of 13.36 meters (43 feet, 10 inches).  She was seventh in the hammer throw with a measurement of 38.92 meters (127 feet, 8 inches).  Geisler was one of the Co-Field Athlete-of-the-Meet after earning 20 points in the conference meet.

Whitney Leuenberger – Dickinson State (N.D.) – Senior – Sidney, Mont. – Dickinson State's (N.D.) Leuenberger is one of the three athletes being named to Co-Field Athlete-of-the-Meet, after scoring a total of 20 points and guided the Blue Hawks to the North Star league's team title.  She won the discus throw title with a distance of 39.83 meters (130 feet, 8 inches).  Leuenberger was also third in the shot put with a measurement of 12.54 meters (41 feet, 1.75 inches) and fourth in the hammer throw (44.33 meters – 145 feet, 5 inches).  She finished eighth in the javelin throw after registering a measurement of 29.91 meters (98 feet, 1 inch).

North Star Athletic Association Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
Abby Honeyman – Dickinson State (N.D.) – Junior – Regent, N.D. – Honeyman earned a pair of titles at the North Star Athletic Association Outdoor Track & Field conference meet as Dickinson State (N.D.) captured the team conference title.  She was a member of the Blue Hawks' 4 x 100-meter relay team that won the title with a time of 49.60 seconds.  Honeyman also claimed the 100-meter hurdles title with a time of 14.98 seconds.  She added a third-place finish in the 100-meter dash finals, clocking a time of 12.84 seconds.  Honeyman earned a runner-up honor in the 200-meter dash after registering a time of 25.99 seconds.

2017 North Star Athletic Association Outdoor Track & Field Championships Recap
Dickinson State (N.D.) cruised to the 2017 North Star Athletic Association Women's Outdoor Track & Field Conference Championships on May 11-12 at Al Cassell Field, hosted by the University of Jamestown (N.D.).  The Blue Hawks scored a total of 241 points in the conference meet.

Jamestown (N.D.) was second with 192 points, followed by Viterbo (Wis.) third with 96 points.  Valley City State (N.D.) was fourth with 71 points, while Waldorf (Iowa) was fifth with 42 points.  Dakota State (S.D.) was sixth after recording 23 points.

Nick Walker of Dickinson State was named the conference's Coach-of-the-Year award.

The NAIA Women's Outdoor Track & Field National Championships will be held in Gulf Shores, Ala. on May 25-27.
