Blue Hawks Fall to Beavers

DICKINSON- The Blue Hawk volleyball team returned home following a two game road trip where they took on NSAA opponents Valley City State University and Mayville State University. The Blue Hawk fell to VCSU in three sets, but took down Mayville State in a hard fought five sets. The Blue Hawks took on former DAC opponent, the Minot State University Beavers Tuesday evening.

The Blue Hawks played a hard fought first set against the Beavers. Shelby Gustafson took control for the Blue Hawks tallying four kills. The Blue Hawks held the Beavers close throughout the set. DSU lead 24-23, just needing one point to close out the set. But, the Blue Hawks effort was not enough to fend off the Beavers. Minot was able to close out the first set, 26-24.

In the second set, the Beavers cane out to a hot start and lead the Blue Hawks 13-3. And even though the Blue Hawks continued to chip away at the lead of the Beavers it was not nearly enough. The Beavers were able to hold on and take the second set 25-17, leading two sets to none.

In the third, the Blue Hawks came out stronger. The Blue Hawks again played a tight set with the Beaver. Like in the first, the Blue Hawks captured a 24-23 lead and needed just one point to extend the match. Again, like the first, the Blue Hawks were unable to close it out and fell in the third 26-24.

A Look Ahead: The Blue Hawk will join with their alumni Saturday evening, October 14, to play their Homecoming alumni game. Then hit the road in one week, to take on North Star opponent Presentation College in Aberdeen, SD. The Blue Hawks will return for a home series taking on nationally ranked Viterbo on Friday, October 20 at 6:00 then Waldorf on Saturday at 3:00.
