DICKINSON- The Blue Hawk volleyball team took to the court in Scott Gymnasium needing a crucial win against Mayville State.
The North Star opponents took on each other earlier in the year when the Comets took down the Blue Hawks 3-1. DSU came out in the first set looking to perform better than they did in the first matchup. A 25-13 first set gave the Blue Hawks momentum early in the evening. But Mayville quickly took things over in the second set. The Comets jumped out to an early lead in the second set and were able to maintain their distance from the Blue Hawks, winning 25-21.
Following the intermission Mayville came out and continued more of the same steady play. The Blue Hawks held with the Comets, but ultimately several errors gave the set to Mayville 25-19.
Into the fourth, the Comets again began strong and built a sizable lead over the Blue Hawks. The Comets pushed their lead to 24-19, just one point away from the victory. But, the Blue Hawks began to chip away at the deficit. Several strong rallies in a row for the Blue Hawks and they were down only one, 24-23. Needing a point to win the match, the Comets ultimately shut down the attack of the Blue Hawks and took the final set 25-23.
A Look Ahead: The Blue Hawks take the court in Scott Gymnasium once more tomorrow November 4. The Blue Hawks will face off against the Valley City Vikings in the last regular season game of the year at 3:00.
