Blue Hawks Compete in Hastings Dual and Deliver Big Performances at Conner Oppenheim Open

HASTINGS & CRETE, Neb. – DSU women's wrestling team completed a challenging two-day stretch with a dual against Hastings College on Thursday followed by a full tournament slate at the Women's Conner Oppenheim Open on Friday. The Blue Hawks recorded multiple podium finishes, deep bracket runs and several bonus-point victories across both events.


Hastings Edges Blue Hawks 28-17 in Thursday Dual

Dickinson State opened the week with a dual against Hastings College that featured several strong individual performances in a competitive 28-17 team result.

At 110 pounds, Myriam Riley put DSU on the board with a forfeit victory. The Blue Hawks followed with back-to-back wins at 117 and 124 pounds. Mikayla Jardine delivered an 11-0 tech fall over Jessica Farmer, and Birta McCaskill secured a 10-2 decision to push DSU into an early lead. The Blue Hawks added another dominant win at 131 pounds when Jumoke Adekoye recorded a 10-0 tech fall in 36 seconds, one of the fastest matches of the dual.

Hastings responded with a run through the middle and upper weights, earning several falls and decisions that shifted the dual. Despite competitive efforts from Kaytlin McAnelly, Savannah Brehm, Olivia Anderson, Bridgette Price and Isabella Urias, the Blue Hawks were unable to retake control. DSU finished with four individual victories and demonstrated early momentum before Hastings closed out the team win.


Blue Hawks Stack Podium Finishes at the Conner Oppenheim Open

Dickinson State rebounded quickly on Friday morning at the Women's Conner Oppenheim Open in Crete, producing one of its most balanced tournament performances of the season.

McCaskill Battles to Third at 124 Pounds

At 124 pounds, Birta McCaskill turned in one of the longest and most productive tournament runs of the day with seven total victories. Her performance included five bonus-point wins, highlighted by three falls and a tech fall in the consolation rounds. She secured third place by pinning Madison Roe of Carl Albert in 3:57.

Adekoye Dominates 131-Pound Bracket for Tournament Title

Jumoke Adekoye continued her standout season with a commanding championship performance at 131 pounds. Adekoye collected four tech falls and a pin while outscoring opponents 54-4. She closed out the finals with a 10-0 tech fall over Elizabeth Duvall of Texas Wesleyan.

Shaw Finishes Third with Multiple Bonus-Point Wins

Also at 131, Makenzie Shaw advanced to the semifinals before falling by pin. She responded with a fall in the consolation semifinals and a 13-0 tech fall in the third-place match. Shaw finished with four wins that included two falls and a tech fall.

Deep Runs from Jardine and Fernandez at 117 Pounds

The 117-pound bracket featured strong showings from both Mikayla Jardine and Geraldyne Fernandez. Jardine won four straight matches in the consolations, including decisions over Missouri Valley, Iowa Western and Texas Wesleyan, to reach the third-place match where she finished fourth. Fernandez added three consolation victories, two of them by fall, before concluding her tournament in the fifth consolation round.

Brehm Takes Runner-Up Finish at 145 Pounds

At 145 pounds, Savannah Brehm advanced to the championship match after earning falls in both the second round and quarterfinals and progressing through the semifinals. She finished runner-up after an 8-4 decision against Paige Allen of Eastern Oregon.

Additional Performances

Kaytlin McAnelly (138) recorded a fall in the championship second round and gained valuable reps in a deep bracket.
Ember Waters (138) received a consolation bye and competed through two rounds.
Olivia Anderson (160) drew a first-round bye and wrestled twice in championship and consolation action.
Isabella Urias (207) posted two falls and reached the third-place match, finishing fourth.
Bridgette Price (180) earned a fall in the second round and continued through the bracket competitively.

The Blue Hawks ended the tournament with a title at 131 pounds, a runner-up finish at 145, third-place finishes at 131 and 124, a fourth-place finish at 117 and multiple bonus-point performances across nearly every weight class.
