Oskaloosa, Iowa - Blue Hawk women's wrestling team battled through tough competition at the Heart of America Conference Championships, placing 5th, with several Blue Hawks earning top finishes in their respective weight classes.
At 103 pounds, Jennifer Verdin placed sixth, picking up four team points for the Blue Hawks. She fell in the quarterfinals and consolation rounds before dropping the fifth-place match by decision. Jenna Gerhardt, wrestling at 110 pounds, had a strong tournament, placing fourth and scoring 8.5 team points. After an early loss, she rebounded in the consolation bracket with a decisive 7-0 victory in the semifinals before losing by fall (2:54) in the third-place match.
Larhae Whaley secured a fifth-place finish at 117 pounds, tallying 12 team points. She picked up multiple wins, including a fall and two tech falls, to cap off her tournament with a dominant 14-5 victory in the fifth-place match. At 131 pounds, Jumoke Adekoye made an impressive run to the finals, securing second place and scoring 16.5 team points. She won her quarterfinal by tech fall and her semifinal by pin before losing by fall (2:23) in the championship bout.
Jessica Gubler (138 pounds) added a sixth-place finish, earning 9.5 team points, while Kiley Hubby (160 pounds) won by decision in the semifinals to reach the championship, before dropping the finals bout by fall (4:09) finishing as the runner-up with 13 team points. Savanna Rickter, wrestling at 180 pounds, secured a seventh-place finish, pinning her opponent in just 1:11.
4 Blue Hawks qulaified for the national tournament including Jenna Gerhardt at 110, Larhae Whaley at 117, Jumoke Adekoye at 131, and Kiley Hubby at 160 pounds respectively.
