Blue Hawk Rodeo Compete at SDSU Jackrabbit Stampede, Women Win Big

Brookings, S.D. - The Dickinson State rodeo teams made a strong showing at the SDSU Jackrabbit Stampede, with the Blue Hawk women's team capturing the team title and the men's squad finishing sixth in a competitive field.

The DSU women tallied an impressive 395 points to secure first place, finishing ahead of Nebraska-Lincoln and Mid-Plains Community College. Junior Jenna Hume led the way with a second-place finish in breakaway roping (5.8 seconds), while Tycie Phalen clocked 27.95 seconds in barrel racing to take fourth. Maci Maher tied for first in goat tying with a 13.7-second run, and Jaysee Jones added to the scoring by placing fifth in the same event.

On the men's side, Dickinson State earned 255 points, good for sixth overall. Lanny Brooks and Tayson Jones delivered standout performances in saddle bronc riding, finishing second and third respectively with scores of 136.0 and 133.0. The Blue Hawk men finished just behind South Dakota State and ahead of Black Hills State.
