Dickinson, ND – Dickinson State University got out to a quick start over the University of Jamestown in the Blue Hawk season opener at the Biesiot Activities Center.
The Blue Hawks totaled 439 yards of total offense, compared to just 186 yards for the Jimmies. DSU rushed for 182 yards and threw for 257, while UJ rushed for 121 yards and threw for just 65.
The Blue Hawks offense, led by Junior quarterback Hayden Gibson, got off to a great start. The Hawks jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter, touchdowns all scored by Nick Miller, Randy Ivey and Jarett Lee.
Defensively the Hawks were unyielding in the first half. With 7:56 left in the second quarter, Cain Boschee intercepted a Jimmie pass but the Hawks were unable to score the rest of the half. The Blue Hawks went into half-time up 21-0.
Within the first two minutes of the third quarter, Amad Andrew scored off of a handoff from quarterback Hayden Gibson. The Hawks scored three more times in the third quarter to extend the lead to 42-0.
The Blue Hawks forced two interceptions, one by Cane Boschee and one by Kevin Brown. Offensively the Hawks had 21 first downs compared to the Jimmies 12.The final score Blue Hawks 51 Jimmies 0.
Junior quarterback, Hayden Gibson received player of the game accolades completing 10 of 16 attempts for a total of 247 yards on four touchdowns.
Dickinson State is on the road next week, playing in a non-conference game against Rocky Mountain College on Sept. 8.
