Dickinson, N.D. – The Dickinson State University Blue Hawks stay undefeated in the NSAA conference as they win against Presentation College on Homecoming weekend.
How It Happened
In the first quarter, the Blue Hawks scored when Hayden Gibson connected with Jaret Lee for a 43-yard touchdown pass. The PAT was good and the Blue Hawks led 7-0, with 11:46 left in the quarter. Later in the quarter, Drew Boedecker capitalized on a Blue Hawk special (reverse pass) to Hayden Gibson for another touchdown. Blue Hawks led 14-0 until the Saints scored with 4:55 remaining (14-7). In the final minutes of the second half, Derek Tabor had a 13-yard touchdown to give the Blue Hawks a 21-7 lead going into halftime.
After halftime, the Saints scored on a 47-yard touchdown pass to make it a 21-14 game. Both teams remained scoreless for the rest of the 3rd quarter. On the first drive in the fourth quarter, Hayden Gibson connected with Tyger Frye for a touchdown pass. The Blue Hawks led 28-14. Again in the fourth quarter, Jaret Lee scored a 45-yard touchdown pass to lead the Saints 35-14. With 7:06 remaining the Presentation College Saints scored making it a 35-21 game. In the final four minutes, the Blue Hawks scored again, leading the Saints 42-21. With 42 seconds left in the game, Trace Jones intercepted the ball to help seal the 42-21 victory for the Blue Hawks.
Individual Stats
The Dickinson State offense gathered 571 yards of total offense. Hayden Gibson went 26-36 for 401 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. Hayden Gibson broke the former most passing yards in a single game record (380 yards) which was set by himself in 2018 against Kansas Wesleyan University. Leading the ground game was Amad Andrews Jr as he gained 63 yards off 17 carries. Tyger Frye racked up 77 yards off seven catches, while finding the end zone once. Jaret Lee had five catches for 154 yards and two touchdowns. Connor McCarvel recorded five catches for 55 yards. Kellen Ray had four catches for 58 yards.
Defensively, Kevin Brown (SR/Windsor, CA) had 11 total tackles- six solo and five assisted. Derick VandeBossche had seven tackles including six solo tackles. Nick Miller also had seven tackles and Dillon Reiner added another six tackles. Derick VandeBossche, Kevin Brown and Trace Jones each had one interception.
"It was good to get the homecoming win. We need to start playing better. We didn't take care of the ball very well and have to play with better pad level on both sides of the ball. We had a great crowd and atmosphere and thanks to all the fans for the support," stated head coach Pete Stanton.
