Dickinson, N.D. – The Dickinson State University Blue Hawks capture their 2nd NSAA conference win of the season against the Mayville State University Comets. This game now holds the record for most points scored in a single game. The former record was set in 1961 when DSU won 72-6 against Ellendale.
How It Happened
The Blue Hawks drew the first blood in the first quarter when Hayden Gibson connected with Jaret Lee for a 4 yard touchdown. Jeremiah Paine's kick was good and the Blue Hawks were up 7-0. Kooper Ray again connected with Tyger Frye for a 26 yard touchdown pass givng the Blue Hawks 13-0 left with 3:21 left to play. Mayville responded and scored making it a 13-7 point game. In the 2nd quarter, Gibson found Lee in the endozone for another 68 yard touchdown pass. The Blue Hawks continued to dominate the Comets and were up 41-7 going into halftime.
After halftime, the Blue Hawks continued to dominate the 3rd quarter. In the third quarter alone, Alec Lovegren ran two touchdowns in for a combined yardage of 90 yards. Along with Lovegren, teammate Riley Linder also had ran two touchdowns. Going into the fourth quarter the Blue Hawks led the Comets 72-7. In the fourth quarter Dawson McGlothlin had a 50 yard punt return for a touchdown. The Blue Hawks would go on to win the game 79-14.
Individual Stats
The Dickinson State offense gathered 615 yards of total offense. Hayden Gibson went 12-14 for 191 yards, two touchdowns and no interception. Leading the ground game was Alec Lovegren as he gained 132 yards off 10 carries and three touchdown. Right behind Lovegren was teammate Amad Andrews Jr who had 13 carries for a gain of 88 yards and two touchdowns. Riley Linder also played great and had 4 carries for 82 yards and two touchdowns.Tyger Frye racked up 45 yards off three catches and one touchdown.
Defensively, Javonte Oliphant led the Blue Hawks with five total tackles, including three solo tackles. Right behind Oliphant was teammate Dillon Reiner, and Braydon Katus with five total tackles. Braydon also had one sack during the game for a loss of four yards. Austin Adolphus, Jared Steinbeisser, Rourke McPeters, Paxton Miller, and Kobe Quiroga each had four tackles. Trenton Rohr led the Blue Hawks in interceptions with one.
"It was a good win for our guys. We played a great second quarter and once we hit the big plays in the third we were well on our way. We did a good job of making plays on both sides of the ball and was good to have all 57 guys traveling see extensive action," stated head football coach Pete Stanton.

Next on the schedule, Dickinson State will travel to Madison, SD to take on the Dakota State University Trojans on Saturday October 12. Kickoff will be at 12pm MT.
