Dickinson, ND- the Dickinson State University women's basketball team fell to Valley City State University Vikings in their conference opener.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the beginning of the first quarter, the Blue Hawks jumped out to an early lead against the Vikings. To end the first quarter, the Blue Hawks were ahead 31-29. The start of the 2nd quarter the Vikings came out strong and the Blue Hawks fell to an early deficit. The Blue Hawks went into halftime down 41-50. To end the half Dakota Dosch was leading with twelve points and both Sydney Clark and Ashlie Larson had nine points.
After halftime, the Vikings came out strong and kept their momentum. With two minutes left in the quarter, Ashlie Watts hit a three-pointer to put the Hawks within three points of the Vikings. The Blue Hawks ended the quarter only down 64-67. The Blue Hawks ended up the game losing 78-91.
TEAM STATS
As a team, the Blue Hawks shot 41.3% for field goals (31-75), 31.6% for from the three point line (12-38), and 66.7% from the free throw line (4-6). The Blue Hawks compiled 18 assists during the game. On defense, the Blue Hawks had 28 rebounds.
INDIVIDUAL STATS
Leading the way on offense was Sydney Clark with 19 points. Right behind Clark was teammates Ashlie Larson and Ashlie Watts with 17 points each. Dakota Dosch added another 15 points during the game. Leading the way in assits was Sydney Clark with 8 total assists.
On defense, Dakota Dosch led the way in rebounds with seven rebounds. Right behind Dosch was Danielle Wallace and Sydney Clark with four boards each. Dakota Dosch also had four steals. Kyley Verploegen had two blocks during the game.
