No. 9 Blue Hawks blank Jimmies in 34-0 win

JAMESTOWN, N.D. - The No. 9 Blue Hawks captured a 34-0 win over the Jamestown Jimmies for their first win of the 2019 campaign. With the win, the Blue Hawks move to 1-1 on the year, while the Jimmies fall to 0-2.

How It Happened -

The Blue Hawks started their scoring off after a 4-yard pass from Hayden Gibson (SR/Bismarck, ND) to Amad Andrews Jr (SR/Pasadena, CA) in the first quarter. Andrews Jr would find the back of the endzone again after a 3-yard rush with 5:40 left to go in the first half. Dickinson State would continue to pour in the first half points as they emerged their lead up to 20 after a Hayden Gibson 17-yard pass to Jaret Lee (JR/Dickinson, ND).

After a scoreless third quarter for both teams, the Hawks came alive in the final quarter as they put up 14 unanswered points to close out the 34-0 road win over the Jimmies.

The Breakdown -

The Dickinson State offense gathered 467 yards of total offense - including 230 yards on the ground - in the 34-0 shutout win. Hayden Gibson went 20-for-30 for 237 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Leading the ground game was Amad Andrews Jr as he gained 84 yards off 17 carries and two touchdowns. He also added four yards receiving and another touchdown in the win. Jaret Lee racked up 72 yards off four catches, while finding the endzone twice. Ty Norby was close behind with 64 yards, followed by Tyger Frye (JR/Billings, MT) with 51, Alec Lovegren (FR/Sidney, MT) with 22, and Noah Sickler (FR/Dickinson, ND) and Conor McCarvel (FR/Helena, MT) with 13 and 11 respectively.

Jace Johnson (FR/Sidney, MT) was nearly perfect as he connected for four PATs, while Jeremiah Paine (FR/Grenora, ND) knocked two of his three punts inside the 20 yard line.

Defensively, Kevin Brown (SR/Windsor, CA) led the Blue Hawks with five total tackles, including one tackle-for-loss and a fumble recovery. Presley Piliati (JR/Anchorage, AK), Aaric Spring (JR/Joliet, MT), Omar Garcia (JR/Norwalk, CA) and Jared Smith (SO/Glasgow, MT) each added a tackle-for-loss in the win, while Garcia added a forced fumble and fumble recovery to his day.

"It was a very good win by our team. We played physical on both sides of the ball. The weather conditions were tough but we were proud of our guys for hanging in there and taking care of the ball. It was a great team effort and win," stated head football coach Pete Stanton.
