Dickinson, ND – The Dickinson State University Blue Hawks used a strong third quarter to pull away from Waldorf University 28-13 on a cold and snowy afternoon.
The Blue Hawk offense got off to a great start as they drove 55-yards in seven plays to score the first touchdown of the game. Drew Boedecker ran it in from 19-yards out to give the Blue Hawks the 7-0 lead after Jeremiah Paine's PAT with 10:18 left in the first quarter. Waldorf answered back with a score of their own on a touchdown run from two yards out to tie the score at 7-7 with 14:29 left in the second quarter. The Dickinson State offense then drove all the way down to the Waldorf 1-yard line but was unable to convert on a 4th and one. The Warriors used a 62-yard run to set up a 20-yard field goal with 2:44 left in the half. The Blue Hawks couldn't get anything going before the half and went into the locker room down 10-7.
The Blue Hawks came out of halftime on fire and owned the third quarter. The DSU offense used a 12-play, 75-yard touchdown drive that was capped off by a Drew Boedecker one-yard QB keeper. The PAT was good and the Hawks led 14-10 with 9:26 left in the third quarter. After a fourth down stop by the DSU defense, Drew Boedecker found Noah Sickler on a 34-yard touchdown pass to give the Blue Hawks at 21-10 lead with 7:09 left in the third quarter. The Blue Hawk defense came up big again when Javonte Oliphant picked off a Warrior pass on a third and long play. The offense cashed in off the turnover when Boedecker ran it in from 7-yards out for his third rushing touchdown of the day. Jeremiah Paine's PAT was good and the Blue Hawks led 28-10 with 2:47 left in the third quarter. Dickinson State out-scored Waldorf 21-0 in the third quarter. The fourth quarter didn't see much scoring as Waldorf kicked a 24-yard field goal with 14:51 left in the game to make the score 28-13. The defense held serve and the offense ran out the clock and the Blue Hawks moved to 7-0 after the hard-fought win. "Our guys did a great job of battling after trailing in the first half. Credit Waldorf for playing well in the first half. We put together our best football of the year in the third quarter in all phases. We found a way to win and we are very proud of our guys," stated head coach Pete Stanton.
Individual Stats
The Blue Hawk offense churned out 414 total yards in the contest with 240 yards on the ground and 174 through the air. Drew Boedecker was 15-20 for 174 yards passing and one touchdown. Boedecker also rushed for 47 yards and three touchdowns. Tyger Frye led the receivers with five catches for 57 yards. Riley Linder was the leading rusher for the Blue Hawks with 72 yards on 19 carries. The Blue Hawk defense was led by Nick Miller with nine tackles on the day. Jared Smith wasn't far behind with six tackles and Javonte Oliphant also had an interception for the defense.

The Blue Hawks are back in action next Saturday, October 31st at Valley City State University. Kickoff is set for 2:00pm.
