Dickinson, ND – The Dickinson State University Blue Hawks raced past Presentation College 70-14 on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Hawks move to 2-2 on the season and 2-0 in North Star play.
How It Happened
Dickinson State got off to a quick start after a Presentation College fumble on the first play of the game. Drew Boedecker (SR/Sheridan, WY) found Noah Sickler (SO/Dickinson, ND) for a two-yard score and Jace Johnson (JR/Sidney, MT) connected on the extra point to make the score 7-0 with 13:58 left in the first quarter. The Blue Hawk defense forced another fumble on Presentation's first play and Riley Linder (JR/Flaxville, MT) cashed in the turnover on a four-yard touchdown run to extend the lead to 13-0. The two-point conversion was successful when Alec Lovegren (JR/Sidney, MT) found Noah Sickler in the back of the endzone and the Blue Hawks led 15-0. After another Blue Hawk defensive stop, the Dickinson State offense went on a 11 play, 79-yard drive capped off by a nine-yard pass by Boedecker to Tyger Frye (SR/Billings, MT). The PAT was good and Dickinson State led 22-0 with 4:12 left in the first quarter. Presentation turned the ball over again when Javonte Oliphan intercepted a pass to get the ball back for the offense. Alec Lovegren found pay dirt from two yard out and Johnson connected on the PAT and Dickinson State led 29-0 with 13:05 left in the second quarter. After a three-and-out by Presentation, Boedecker found Conor McCarvel (JR/Helena, MT) on a 33-yard touchdown pass to take a 36-0 lead with 8:37 left in the second quarter. Presentation scored a touchdown with 19 seconds left in the half and Dickinson State went into halftime with a 36-7 lead.
The Blue Hawks received the second half kickoff and went on a 10-play, 69-yard drive when Boedecker found Kellen Ray (SR/Glendale, AZ) for a 22-yard score. The PAT was good and Dickinson State led 43-7. The Blue Hawk defense forced another three-and-out on the next series. Boedecker found Noah Sickler on a three-yard touchdown pass, his fifth touchdown pass of the day. The PAT was good and Dickinson State led 50-7. The defense got the ball back and Braden Zuroff (SO/New Salem, ND) broke off a long 57-yard touchdown run to extend the lead to 57-7 with 1:56 left in the third quarter. Two plays later Javonte Oliphan picked off Hunter Giffrow pass and returned it 35-yards for a pick six to give the Blue Hawks a 64-7 lead. After both teams traded punts, Jackson Willems (FR/Billings, MT) picked off another pass and returned it 10-yards for another touchdown and Dickinson State led 70-7. A Presentation College touchdown capped the scoring and the Blue Hawks won the game 70-14.
INDIVIDUAL STATS
Dickinson State racked up 499 yards of total offense on the day. Drew Boedecker completed 25 of 33 passes for 288 yards and five touchdowns. Braden Zuroff led the Blue Hawks on the ground with seven carries for 85 yards and one touchdown. Conor McCarvel led the receiving core with eight catches for 97 yards and one touchdown.
Defensively, Nick Miller (SR/Mandan, ND) led the team with six tackles (five solo, one assist). Krew Mathern (JR/Dickinson, ND) was right behind Miller with five tackles of his own. Riley O'Donnell (FR/Baker, MT), Zach Fleming (JR/Lodi, CA) and Nate Boehm (FR/Bowman, ND) all recorded a sack in the game.

The Blue Hawks next game will be October 9th as they take on Dakota State University for homecoming 2021. Kickoff is set for 1:00pm MT.
