Softball drops day-one double-header to Bellevue

DICKINSON, N.D. – The Dickinson State softball team suffered a two-game loss to the (RV) Bruins of Bellevue University on Friday afternoon. The Blue Hawks fell 5-0 in game one and 9-2 in game two. With the losses, the Blue Hawks drop to 12-20 overall, and 4-6 in conference play.

Game One: Dickinson State 0, Bellevue University 5

In the first game of the series, the Blue Hawks failed to get anything offensively going – in terms of runs on the scoreboard. Although the Blue Hawks outhit the Bruins 9-7 in the contest, the Bruins tagged on five runs in three innings to escape with the 5-0 game one victory.

Offensively, the Bruins tagged on solo runs in the second and sixth innings, before a three-run inning in the seventh to seal the 5-0 win.

From the Box Score –

Four Blue Hawks recorded a multiple hit game with Rhea Paiva, Ari Martinez, Katelyn Kubitschek, and Emma Woodworth with two each. The final hit came off the bat of Emilie Sickler.

From the mound, Dallis Mitchell suffered the loss after letting up five runs (5ER) off seven hits in seven innings pitched. Mitchell add four walks, while sitting down four Bruins in the game.

Game Two: Dickinson State 2, Bellevue University 9

In the second game of the day, the Blue Hawks tagged on two runs in the 9-2 loss. The Bruins started off the scoring in the top of the first inning with the early 1-0 lead. However, DSU responded back with a two-run inning in the second for the 2-1 lead.

After a pop-out to start the inning for the Blue Hawks, Emma Woodworth connected for a double to center field to start the offense. After a strikeout for the second out, Kennedy Kuntz connected for the long ball over the left field fence to give the Blue Hawks the 2-1 lead.

However, the Bruins responded with eight unasnwered runs in the following five innings to come away with the 9-2 win in game two.

Of the teams four hits in the loss, Kennedy Kuntz led the team going 2-for-3 from the batter's box. Teammates Rhea Paiva and Emma Woodworth followed with a hit a piece to round out the team's four hits.

Ari Martinez took the loss after a seven hit, six run (5ER) in 3.1 inning performance. Martinez added one walk and sat down two Bruin batters in 17 batters faced. Madeline Peralta finished the final 3.2 innings with four hits for three runs (1ER) in 14 batters faced.
