CONFERENCE RESTART: After a game at Valley City State on December 3 officially started conference play, the Blue Hawks will resume North Star play when they head south to take on top North Star contenders in Bellevue University and RV Dakota State University … the Blue Hawks offense has sputtered a bit as of late, averaging less than 50 points per game over their last three losses … the competition does not get much easier this week with BU and DaSU waiting in their home gyms, so Coach Nelson's squad will look to rediscover the offensive prowess they have shown in flashes this season … a tough non-conference schedule should bear fruit as NSAA play proceeds over the next few months … the Blue Hawks are very young and rely heavily on sophomore starters (Oase, Steele, and Jacobson) and hope that the more games they play together the more they will improve

THE SERIES SINCE 2009...
vs BU: BU leads 9-4, 6-1 in Bellevue
Last: 72-65 BU (2/12/22 in Bellevue) / Streak: BU 1
Notes: The teams split the series last season with each team winning on their home floor … in the first match up of the season, the Blue Hawks stunned the Bruins with a 69-50 dominate win in Dickinson early in NSAA play … the Bruins answered back with a 72-65 win to close out North Star play … DSU has not won in Bellevue since February 3, 2017

vs DaSU: DaSU leads 12-11
Last: 85-65 DaSU (2/26/22 in Sioux City) / Streak: DaSU 12
Notes: Dakota State has won each of the last 12 games between the teams … the last three wins have come by at least 20 points, including two 20-point victories last season … the Trojans ended DSU's 2021-2022 season in the NSAA Semi-Finals with an 85-65 win

SCOUTING THE FOES: Bellevue snapped a four-game losing streak with a 79-60 win over Iowa Wesleyan on December 30, but have not played a game since … they hold wins over two teams receiving votes in the national polls in Grand View (Iowa) and Dakota State …  the Bruins are a threat from deep, shooting 37 percent as a team from long range and scoring 70 points per game … they share the ball well, averaging 15 assists on 25 made baskets per game and are adept at forcing turnovers, snagging eight steals per contest … Dakota State is once again the favorite to win the North Star regular season title, receiving votes in the national polls and sporting wins over two top 25 teams in Briar Cliff and Northwestern …  the Trojans will play their usual pressure defense that has led them to 12.4 steals per game, good enough for 18th in the nation … they generally turn those turnovers into points, averaging 78.3 points per game on the year and holding opponents to just 65.8

QUOTES…

Head Coach Eric Nelson

"We are looking forward to starting back up our conference season this weekend against Bellevue and Dakota State. We feel like our tough non-conference schedule has prepared us for the conference run and our team is ready to play a couple of the top teams in conference on the road."
