Valley City, N.D. – Samantha Oase scored a team-high 18 points and pulled down 7 rebounds, but it wasn't enough as Dickinson State fell to host Valley City State, 74-63, in a non-conference matchup at the Dakota Clash.
Kayden Steele (15 points) and Katherine Fox (13 points, 7 rebounds) both had solid games as well, but 25 turnovers proved costly as the Vikings turned them into 27 points on the night.
Despite the turnover issues, the Blue Hawks only trailed by one, 33-32, heading into the halftime break. A three pointer by Steele to kick off the second half gave DSU the lead, and with 6:11 left in the quarter the game was tied 43-43.
The Vikings then went on an 11-3 run to take control of the game, but five straight points from Hannah LaBree got Dickinson State back within three, 54-51, with just over a minute remaining in the third quarter.
The Blue Hawks would get no closer, however, as a smothering VCSU defense held DSU to just 10 points in the final frame as they pulled away for the 74-63 victory.
