DICKINSON – Samantha Oase scored 19 points on 6-10 shooting, but Dickinson State couldn't keep up with (RV) Dakota State in a 73-54 home loss on Friday evening.
The Blue Hawks were able to keep pace with the powerful Trojan squad early in the contest, knotting the game at 9-9 when Lindsay Peterson knocked down a three-pointer with 3:34 left in the first quarter. However, the Trojans responded with the first of many runs throughout the game and went into the first quarter break leading 17-9.
A McKenzie Johnson basket with 6:15 left in the half got the Blue Hawks to within four, 21-17, but again the Trojans responded with a run. DaSU scored the next ten points to stretch their lead to 14 before Peterson ended the run with 3:44 left until halftime. The visitors took a 37-23 lead into the break.
Dickinson State continued to battle in the second half, but each time the Blue Hawks tried to make a run, the Trojans responded with one of their own. For the game DaSU attempted 35 three-point shots, connecting on 12, and dominated on the glass, pulling down 44 rebounds, including 18 offensive.
DSU continued its streak of good shooting nights, going 20-45 (45 percent) from the field, and 4-10 from deep, but 27 turnovers turned into 34 Trojan points, proving the difference in the game.
Peterson was the only other Blue Hawk in double-figures as she finished with 11, while Heather LaBree went a perfect 3-3 from the field on her way to 7 points.
