TUCSON, Ariz. – The Dickinson State softball team came up short in a pair of games on Wednesday in Tucson, Arizona. The Blue Hawks fell 12-1 to the University of Jamestown in game one before falling 13-5 to Concordia (Neb.).
GAME 1
Kara Conway tied the game at 1-1 with a sacrifice fly in the top of the second inning that scored pinch runner Bailey Pepper who entered in for Hailey Enriquez after a leadoff double. Jamestown responded with five runs in the bottom half of the inning to take control as they cruised to a 12-1 victory in five innings.
Arjana Eilers collected the other Blue Hawk hit on the game, a one-out single in the third inning. DSU committed six errors on the game leading to six unearned runs that kept UJ innings alive.
GAME 2
Dallis Mitchell doubled home Rhea Paiva in the third inning for the first DSU run of the game, but Concordia had already built a 7-0 lead as they controlled the game from the start.
Mitchell drove in two more runs with an RBI single in the fifth inning, scoring Kennedy Kuntz and Bailey Pepper, and Hailey Enriquez doubled home Mitchell for the final DSU run.
The Concordia bats were hot on the day, collecting 18 hits, with seven going for extra bases, making up for four defensive errors.
