Dickinson, N.D. – Three Blue Hawks scored in double figures, led by Samantha Oase's 16 points, but a big fourth quarter run by Valley City State put the game out of reach as DSU fell, 85-64, on Friday evening.
DSU jumped out to an early lead with strong defense early in the first quarter, and they led 16-13 with just under 3 minutes remaining in the opening period. At the 1:35 mark Valley City State took the lead and never looked back, leading the rest of the way. Dickinson State was able to make it a one possession game multiple times the rest of the way but could never get the basket to tie or take the lead when they needed it.
VCSU dominated the fourth quarter, 22-9, to run away with a victory that looks bigger than most of the game suggested.
Oase added 9 rebounds to just miss out on a double-double, while Katherine Fox and Kayden Steele scored 11 and 13 points, respectively, as the other Blue Hawks in double figures.
DSU won the rebounding battle, 38-33, but 24 turnovers proved costly on the night. All ten Blue Hawks that played found the scoring column in the loss.
