Madison, S.D. – Dickinson State got 22 points and five rebounds from Samantha Oase, but for the third straight year, #10 Dakota State was too much to overcome in the NSAA semifinals as the Blue Hawks fell, 72-50, on the road.
Dickinson State shot 42 percent from the floor, and 11-11 from the free throw line on the game, but 30 turnovers gave the hosts 26 more shots on the afternoon. Dakota State never trailed in the contest, a Kaylin Garza three pointer tied the game at 15-15 with 3:08 left in the first quarter, but the Trojans responded with an 11-0 run to end the quarter.
Katherine Fox was the second leading scorer for DSU, chipping in 7 points, as the Blue Hawks were never able to get into any offensive rhythm against a smothering DaSU defense.
The Blue Hawks will now turn their attention to next season, with Oase, Fox, and Kayden Steele all slated to return as their top three scorers from this season. They will look to replace the production from four-year Blue Hawks, Hannah and Heather LaBree and Teagan Townsend, all at the guard position heading into the 24-25 season.
