Fayette, Mo. – Dickinson State got another gem from Dallis Mitchell in the circle, as the Blue Hawks won their fifth straight postseason game, 2-0 over Mid-America Christian, to move into the winner's bracket of the NAIA National Championship Opening Round.
The Blue Hawks scored all the runs they would need in the top of the first inning after Kiley Hubby and Karissa Comer drove RBI singles to go with a walk and two hit-by-pitches.
Neither team scored the rest of the way, as Mitchell and MAC relief pitcher Rachel Eggelston combined to throw 13 innings of scoreless softball to finish the game.
The two teams endured a three-hour long rain delay starting in the bottom of the sixth inning as lightning and heavy rain passed through the area.
The delay did nothing to slow down Mitchell as she earned her fifth straight win with a line of 7 innings, 4 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, and 9 strikeouts lowering her postseason ERA to a microscopic 0.61 over 34 innings pitched.
DSU now advances to take on top-seeded, and No. 3 nationally, Central Methodist University in the winner's bracket semi-finals.
