Blue Hawks fall in road DH at Jamestown

Sagan Osborne – Dickinson State Sports & Marketing Information Director

Jamestown, N.D. – Dickinson State dropped a pair of games to the University of Jamestown on Friday to wrap up the road portion of their fall schedule. The Blue Hawks fell 4-2 in a tight game one before dropping game two 8-2.

Game One – UJ 4 DSU 2

The Blue Hawks got two hits, including a home run, from leadoff hitter Jace Buchanan, but were unable to break through against a tough UJ pitching staff in the first game of the day.

Jamestown took a 2-0 lead with a home run in the bottom of the first inning before Wyatt Wilharm got the Blue Hawks to within one with a two-out RBI single in the top of the third inning.

The Jimmies immediately responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning and scored again in the fourth to make it 4-1.

The score stayed there until Buchanan's home run in the top of the seventh inning with two outs.

Jacob Scully took the loss for DSU, going 4.0 innings and allowing four runs on five hits while striking out two and walking none. Patrick Dietz gave the Blue Hawks two solid innings in relief, allowing no runs on one hit while striking out three.

Game Two – UJ 8 DSU 2

Dickinson State jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning thanks to a home run from Ty Farwell and an RBI double from Wilharm, but they couldn't scratch another run the rest of the way as UJ scored 8 unanswered runs to earn the sweep of the day.

After Jamestown scored seven runs in the first 12 innings, Blue Hawk relievers Cooper Van Luchene, Anthony Hanson, and Trent Chavez combined for 4.1 innings of relief allowing just one run on one hit while striking out five and walking none.

John-Michael Gonzalez Jr. and Wilharm each had multi-hit days in the loss.
