BILLINGS, Mont. — Dickinson State fell, 28-21, in a Frontier Conference East Division loss to Rocky Mountain College on Saturday afternoon at Herb Klindt Field.
The Blue Hawks dropped to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in Frontier East play. Rocky Mountain improved to 2-4 and 2-0 in the division standings.
Dickinson State took an early 7-0 lead after recovering a Rocky Mountain fumble and capitalizing with a 3-yard touchdown run by Jackson Simonson. Ty Nelson added the PAT to cap the 9-play, 40-yard scoring drive.
The Bears responded with two touchdown passes from quarterback Trent Nobach, including a 59-yard connection with Darius Haskin in the closing seconds of the first half to give Rocky Mountain a 14-7 lead at the break.
Trailing 21-7 in the third quarter, the Blue Hawks pulled within a score on a 64-yard touchdown pass from Marcus Sanders to Jackson Whicker. In the fourth quarter, Sanders found Adrien Calderon from 12 yards out to make it 28-21, but Dickinson State was unable to find the end zone again.
Sanders threw for 397 yards on 30-of-47 passing with two touchdowns, but the Blue Hawks were undone by five interceptions, including one thrown on a trick play attempt. Whicker led the receiving corps with six receptions for 138 yards and a touchdown, while Calderon added five catches for 66 yards.
Dickinson State's rushing attack was limited to 23 net yards on 20 attempts, averaging just 1.2 yards per carry.
The Blue Hawks finished with 424 total yards but were outgained by Rocky Mountain's 519-yard offensive output. Nobach completed 34 passes for 438 yards and four touchdowns, three of them to receiver Eric Lira, who totaled 216 yards on 13 receptions.
Defensively, Nathaniel Jilek led the Blue Hawks with eight tackles and one interception. Jack Hartman added another pick, while the defense forced four fumbles and recovered two. Ben Glasscock and Wyatt Anderson each registered a sack.
