CHADRON, Neb. - In a historic night for both programs, the Blue Hawks competed in their first dual of the 2025-26 season and their first-ever meeting with NCAA Division II opponent Chadron State College. The inaugural matchup proved tightly contested from start to finish, with Chadron State edging Dickinson State 26-22.
BLUE HAWKS HOLD GROUND THROUGH OPENING STRETCH
The dual opened at 103 pounds, where Chadron State's Brianna Vollendroff earned a forfeit to put the Eagles ahead early, 5-0. At 110 pounds,
Jenna Gerhardt battled deep into the second period before falling by pin to Rylee Balcazar in 5:06, extending the Chadron lead to 10-0. The Eagles kept momentum at 117 pounds, where Adrianna Lopez earned a fall over
Mikayla Jardine at 5:34, making it 15-0 in favor of Chadron State.
DSU RALLIES WITH THREE CONSECUTIVE WINS
The Blue Hawks answered back with three straight dominant performances. Beginning at 124 pounds,
Birta McCaskill put Dickinson State on the board with a fall at 3:50 over Ana Rojas Zamora. DSU struck again at 131 pounds, where
Makenzie Shaw delivered one of the quickest wins of the night, pinning Maddox Gehlhausen in just 36 seconds, cutting the team score to 15-10. At 138 pounds,
Jumoke Adekoye continued the surge with a technical fall, overwhelming Nevaeh Leonard 10-0 in only 1:56, and bringing the Blue Hawks within a single point at 15-14. Chadron State regained control at 145 pounds, where Desza Munson secured a pin over
Paisley Jaeger at 1:48. The Eagles added another fall at 160 pounds, with Maria Arellano defeating
Olivia Anderson in 1:22, widening their lead to 25-14.
PRICE AND URIAS CLOSE THE GAP IN FINAL MATCHES
At 180 pounds,
Bridgette Price delivered a crucial fall at 1:47 over Cosette Desrosiers, pulling the Blue Hawks back within striking distance at 25-19. The dual concluded at 207 pounds, where
Isabella Urias worked a strong 8-1 decision over Estrella Vasquez-Gutierrez. Her three team points brought the final score to 26-22, closing a competitive and historic first dual for Dickinson State.
