Blue Hawks Battle Through Beaver Bash Weekend and Split Dual Matchups

MINOT, N.D. - Dickinson State wrapped up a competitive two-day stretch at the Beaver Bash weekend with strong individual showings at the Beaver Bash Open and two tightly contested duals against the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Sioux Falls. The Blue Hawks earned multiple bracket titles, produced several dominant tech falls and pins, and continued to show lineup depth as the early season progresses.


BLUE HAWKS STACK PODIUM FINISHES AT THE BEAVER BASH OPEN

The Blue Hawks opened the weekend on Friday with an impressive performance at the Beaver Bash Open, recording multiple finalists, two all-DSU championship matchups, and more than twenty bonus point victories across ten weights.

At 110 pounds, Myriam Riley completed a gritty backside run to finish third. Riley produced a tech fall and two pins, including a fall in the third-place match over Dakota Wesleyan's Cerys Gardner.

Dickinson State controlled the 117 pound bracket from start to finish. Jazmine Turner and Mikayla Jardine dominated their respective sides of the bracket with four combined tech falls and two pins before meeting in an all-Blue Hawk championship match. Rebekah Anderson  battled back to take sixth with two wins in the consolations.

The Blue Hawks added another podium sweep at 131 pounds. Makeznie Shaw and Jumoke Adekoye both powered their way to the finals with a mix of pins and tech falls, securing a second weight class controlled entirely by DSU.

At 124 pounds, Brita McCaskill delivered one of the most consistent performances of the day, placing third with four bonus point wins that included three falls and a tech fall.

Additional strong results came from the upper weights. Savannah Brehm took second at 145 pounds after a dramatic criteria-based semifinal win. Olivia Anderson (160) placed sixth, while Bridgette Price  (180) and Isabella Urias (207) each earned fourth-place finishes with multiple bonus point victories.

Dickinson State left the tournament with one of its most complete team performances of the season and strong momentum heading into Saturday's dual contests.


BLUE HAWKS CLAIM 24-18 DUAL WIN OVER SASKATCHEWAN

Dickinson State opened Saturday with a statement dual win over the University of Saskatchewan. The Blue Hawks earned five individual victories, four of them coming by fall or tech fall, to secure a 24-18 team victory.

The dual began with back-to-back pins at 110 and 117 pounds. Myriam Riley got DSU started with a fall at 1:51, followed by Mikayla Jardine who ended her match in just 45 seconds.

Saskatchewan responded at 124 pounds, but Jumoke Adekoye answered quickly with a 10-0 tech fall at 131. Kaytlin McAnelly added another major swing at 138 with a fall at 4:05.

Despite a late push from Saskatchewan at 145, 160, and 180, Isabella Urias sealed the dual at 207 pounds by securing a forfeit victory to lock in the 24-18 DSU win.


BLUE HAWKS EDGE TOUGH MATCHUPS IN NARROW 22-21 LOSS TO SIOUX FALLS

Dickinson State closed the weekend against the University of Sioux Falls in a dual that came down to the final bout. Sioux Falls narrowly claimed a 22-21 victory in a dual filled with momentum swings.

At 110 pounds, Myriam Riley opened the night with a fall at 4:57 to put DSU on the board. Jazmine Turner followed with a dominant 13-2 tech fall at 117, continuing her strong weekend. Brita McCaskill extended the lead with a fall at 124 pounds, giving the Blue Hawks three straight wins to start the dual.

Sioux Falls responded at 131 pounds with a fall, but Jumoke Adekoye delivered a decisive answer for DSU at 138, recording a 13-0 tech fall in just over three minutes.

The Cougars surged in the middle weights, earning back-to-back falls at 145 and 160, which tightened the dual entering the upper weights. At 180 pounds, Bridgette Price wrestled one of her best matches of the weekend, grinding out an 8-2 decision to keep DSU within reach.

The dual came down to the heavyweight bout at 207 pounds. Sioux Falls secured a fall late in the first period, which closed out the dual and pushed the Cougars ahead by a single point for a 22-21 final score.
